About this opportunity:

The Department of Anthropology at Ball State University invites applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor beginning August 2027.

The Department of Anthropology has approximately 78 majors and 31 minors with 5 faculty members. Faculty expertise spans archeology, biological, and cultural anthropology. Students are supported by a range of engaged learning opportunities, such as study abroad, internships, field schools, and immersive learning.

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

What you'll do and what you will bring:

Duties and Responsibilities: Responsibilities consist of a 4/4 teaching load, including upper-division archaeology courses such as Midwest Prehistory, Archaeology Lab Methods, and Applied Archaeology (1 section per semester) and introductory courses in archaeology and other introductory anthropology fields as needed (3 sections per semester; may include cultural anthropology).

Courses will be taught on campus although some courses may be delivered online. There may be an opportunity to teach an archaeology field school during fall semester and/or summer teaching of introductory archaeology courses as needed, dependent upon enrollment.

Minimum Qualifications: A PhD degree in anthropology from an accredited college or university by the date of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications: A PhD in anthropology, with specialization and experience in the prehistoric archaeology of the Midwest or eastern North America and experience in cultural resources management.
