Role Objective

Provides cGMP compliant laboratory technical support to Supply Chain in the form of method development, method validation, training, testing, documentation and data trending. Reviews raw materials, finished goods and stability analyses. Position may require direct supervision of Quality Control (QC) personnel.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Supervises and prioritizes day to day QC laboratory operations.
  • Creates and implements new systems that optimize equipment capacity, performance, quality, and costs in the Quality Control laboratories.
  • Qualifies, validates, and maintains laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
  • Performs routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of equipment, including viscometers, High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Gas Chromatography (GC) systems.
  • Trains technicians and assesses competencies.
  • Develops documents and validates new analytical tests methods.
  • Expands and maintains valid test methodology and procedures.
  • Participates in team-oriented investigations of manufacturing deviations as needed.
  • Maintains a safe working environment for all QC personnel and visitors.
  • Communicates with Manufacturing, Procurement, Planning, and Customer Development on deviations from specifications or testing delays.
  • Creates systems to meet new product introductions.
  • Insures scientific validity of technical resources.
  • Locates, evaluates and implements new concepts, techniques, approaches, and technologies into testing protocols.
  • Maintains good housekeeping in work areas.
  • Familiar with emergency procedures and equipment necessary to safely and effectively respond to an emergency involving hazardous waste.
  • Assures hazardous wastes are placed in the appropriate containers that are near the point of generation, properly labeled, in good condition and closed.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology or a related field required
  • Minimum two years' corporate laboratory experience required
  • HPLC, GC, and Infrared spectroscopy (IR) experience desirable
  • Must demonstrate an acceptable level of safety and material handling knowledge
