The Yang Lab (https://medicine.osu.edu/find-faculty/non-clinical/molecular-medicine-and-therapeutics/liping-yang) is recruiting a highly motivated and creative Research Scientist to join our new research group focused on tumor immunology, tumor microenvironment and tumor immunotherapy. Our lab aims to uncover the molecular and cellular mechanisms that regulate immune responses in cancer, with a particular focus on tumor-infiltrating immune cells and the dynamic interactions between tumor cells, stromal cells, and the immune microenvironment.

We are part of a vibrant research community with strong collaborations across immunology, oncology, genomics, and translational medicine. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead projects using state-of-the-art techniques such as CRISPR screening, multi-omics, high-parameter flow cytometry, in vivo models, and translational studies.

The Research Scientist will function as an expert and resource in cancer genetics research; conceptualizes, designs, implements, evaluates, and directs research with regard to cancer, including, but not limited to, basic and advanced molecular biology, cellular biology, immunology, and animal study techniques; develops, adopts and implements new laboratory methods; develops hypothesis and experimental approach to hypothesis testing; participates as a team member in conference with researchers to interpret data and discuss project progress; collaborates with other researchers in determining research priorities and planning programs of research; develops, writes and submits grant proposals of original research as principal investigator to extramural funding agencies to obtain significant salary and research support from outside funding agencies; administers grants; directs and manages grant budgets; troubleshoots problems; advises staff and researchers on new technology and trends in molecular biology; develops and conducts educational workshops, lectures and seminars; manages and oversees the selection and design of research methodologies used for data analysis and establishes procedures; performs research for new methods and makes recommendations regarding research procedures; keeps up to date with relevant published literature; develops and writes research manuscripts, articles, and abstracts; writes project reports; presents ongoing work and findings at academic and international conferences; supervises graduate students and other members of staff; trains junior investigators, post doctoral researchers, graduate students and technicians within laboratory.

Education/Experience Required

  • Doctorate (Academic) or equivalent combination of education and experience with a Major in Immunology, Cancer Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field; extensive experience in a research capacity required;

  • Demonstrated ability to be a competent and productive researcher i.e. incumbent will have authored several publications of considerable interest and value to the field as evidenced by favorable reviews, by citation in the work of others, by presentations of papers to professional societies, and/or will have contributed inventions, new designs, or techniques which are of material significance in the solution of important applied problems;

  • Experience with mouse models, flow cytometry, and molecular biology techniques.
