Program Development
- Collaborates with the Vice Chair of Education, Program Directors, and Department Administrator on new program proposals as well as developing and implementing new program policies and procedures to aid in the successful foundation of the program.
- Partners with department leadership to identify new education opportunities or other areas for program growth for the department of Surgery and develops and presents reports on effectiveness and growth in programs.
Program Administration amp; Oversight
- Directs the administrative programmatic and operational activities of the department's Cardiothoracic and Vascular I6 residency programs and Cardiothoracic and Vascular fellowship programs. Becoming an integral part of the Hearth and Vascular Center Education Team. Contributing as well to the Transplant Center on thoracic transplantation organs procurement/education.
- Works collaborative with other program managers to make sure seamless integration of medical students and fellows in the education and clinical activities where Cardiothoracic amp; Vascular surgery residents are involved
- Works collaborative with the program managers of General Surgery and Medical Students to coordinate curriculum, rotation and evaluations for all services
- Under the leadership of the Vice Chair for Education and Faculty Program Director(s), oversees trainee affairs.
- Supports hiring, training, coaching, and mentorship for other residency and fellowship support staff and residents/fellows.
- Organizes the structure by which the office functions in order to complete all requirements associated with ACGME, CPME, and institutional compliance. Establishes procedures and systems in order to ensure orderly and timely work flow.
- Applies a detailed knowledge of the responsibilities, functions, and management of graduate medical education programs. Oversees and directs the management of all programs in order to ensure that all requirements are met to maintain accreditation.
- Executes and evaluates strategic plans for all education programs develops and implements programmatic rules policies and procedures.
- Oversees implementation of and participates in the evaluation of curriculum for all cardiothoracic and vascular surgery programs
- Partners with education leaders and Program Evaluation Committee members on identification of program strengths and areas for improvement for purposes of strategic planning.
- Identifies recommends and implements programmatic and curriculum changes as needed.
- Oversees GME site visits, annual accreditation reports, and internal program evaluations and reports for all programs
- Provides direct management of all aspects of General Surgery Residency programs.
Education budgets, events, and communications
- Forecasts and administers program budget for. Reviews and monitors expenditures.
- Oversees, directs, and participates in trainee recruitment for all programs.
- Manages orientation and graduation activities for all trainees.
- Manages all aspects of educational events within department (i.e. research day, lectureship, symposia. Visiting professors, grand rounds, etc.)
- Manages use of departmental pcard and submits or reallocates expense reports for purchases.
- Develops and updates recruitment materials and website updates. Manages communications from education division through the OSUMC Hub, Departmental Teams Channel, newsletter and departmental journal publications
- Manages Workday HR tasks for all trainees (i.e. yearly job requisitions, costing allocations, compensation changes, additional compensation entries, etc.)
