Join IMEG as a Geotechnical Engineering New Grad in Bozeman, MT, and help design the foundations and earth systems that keep our world standing strong. You'll work alongside experienced engineers to investigate subsurface conditions, design foundations, and solve complex challenges like slope stability, landslide prevention, and soil improvement for infrastructure projects. From bridge foundations and sports complexes to highways, tunnels, and high-rise buildings, your work will directly impact the safety, resilience, and sustainability of communities. This entry-level role blends fieldwork, lab analysis, and design-giving you a well-rounded start to your career in geotechnical engineering. You'll gain hands-on experience with modern testing technology, learn from seasoned professionals, and see your work come to life in high-profile projects.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Interact with clients to gather requirements and communicate technical information

  • Build and maintain client relationships

  • Coordinate and manage geotechnical and materials testing activities

  • Support project planning, scheduling, and execution

  • Document design decisions and monitor progress

  • Analyze engineering tasks and propose solutions with senior support

  • Participate in IMEG quality control processes

  • Stay current with civil engineering trends and contribute to R&D

  • Prioritize safety and ensure regulatory compliance

  • Interpret and apply state/local design criteria

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required

  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) License preferred

  • Required Skills/Abilities

  • Basic skills or knowledge with AutoCAD Civil 3Dsoftware and the ability to complete AutoCAD training sessions as quickly as possible

  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills

  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges

  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Ability to travel up to 5% with occasional overnight stays

  • Assist in site investigations, soil and rock exploration, and foundation recommendations

  • Gain experience in construction materials testing (soil, aggregate, asphalt, concrete) to ensure safety and quality

  • Help prevent geotechnical hazards such as landslides, sinkholes, and unstable slopes

  • Learn the latest geotechnical testing methods and engineering tools, including AutoCAD Civil 3D and geotechnical analysis software

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate geotechnical findings into structural and civil designs
