Job Summary:

The mechanical engineer performs a variety of engineering project assignments in the largest aluminum extrusion mill in North America. Provide hydraulic and machine design expertise and general mechanical engineering knowledge of assigned projects. Involves the upgrade and design of equipment, specification of materials and services, supervision of installation, start-up, and troubleshooting of new and existing equipment. Must be able to lead projects from the definition of project scope through final execution while working with diverse plant project teams. Must be able to lead contractors and support the plant maintenance team to ensure equipment functionality and reliability. Provides recommendations to increase equipment efficiency and overall production system efficiency and reliability. This position reports to the Engineering Manager.

Required Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 5 years engineering experience required.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree (BS or BA) in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing environment preferred.
  • PE License or (EIT/EI) preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of project engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, heavy industrial preferred.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage a variety of projects simultaneously: Provide alternate solutions. Provide cost estimates. Develop the scope of work for the project. Provide / Design drawings and specifications for the project. Verify project design meets all regulatory codes and regulations, including Hydro standards. Provide requisitions and work orders for the completion of the project. Provide direction to the labor force to complete projects.
  • Work with internal and external engineering resources, equipment suppliers, and construction contractors to complete assigned projects safely, on time, and on budget.
  • Perform a variety of engineering tasks such as analytical problem solving, design calculations, review of proposals from equipment suppliers and contractors, selection of equipment and contractors, and review and approval of vendor drawings, scheduling, and cost control.
  • Provide engineering assistance to maintenance and manufacturing departments: Develop solutions for ongoing maintenance/reliability problems, evaluate equipment upgrades, update drawings to reflect changes made by maintenance, troubleshoot existing systems, and coordinate/provide training and equipment documentation.
  • Communicate schedules and project status within the department, with other departments within the plant, and with equipment suppliers and construction contractors.
