The HR Associate I is responsible for HR processes and activities for faculty, staff and student employees in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS). Initiate, review and process HR and payroll transactions. Facilitate HR processes from onboarding through separation. Serve as a resource for department HR associates and business managers, ensuring compliance with University policy and College procedures. As a member of the LAS College HR team, work collaboratively to provide excellent customer service to LAS departments and support LAS HR short-term and long-term goals.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Review and process HR transactions for all employees (i.e. HRFE transactions, new hires, reappointments, reclassifications, etc.) by required deadlines, ensuring accuracy and compliance with University policy.
  • Initiate and facilitate HR processes for faculty, staff and student employees, including new hire onboarding, separation processing, overcompensation payments, leave of absence processing, etc.
  • Coordinate visa and immigration processes in collaboration with the Office of International Services (OIS) for international faculty, staff, graduate students and visiting scholars.
  • Work with department HR associates and business managers and advise them on University and College policies and procedures.
  • Review biweekly timesheets to ensure completion by deadlines, initiate payroll adjustments, and review adjustments submitted for college review.
  • Create process documentation, checklists, and standard correspondence to support LAS faculty, staff, and department HR contacts.
  • Collaborate with the LAS HR team to achieve short-term and long-term goals.
  • Create reports, monitor trends, and identify opportunities for improvement related to HR and payroll processes within LAS.
  • Ensure college-wide completion of annual compliance processes (i.e. Ethics training, ANCRA).
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


  • Minimum Qualifications Required:

    1. Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Administration, Management, Organizational Administration, Public Administration, Labor Relations, Business Administration, or a field closely related to the position.
    2. Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience performing professional-level human resources duties.


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • HR experience in higher education.
    • Knowledge and proficiency in university HR and payroll systems, including Banner, HR Front End, PARIS, ANA, EDDIE Data Warehouse, etc.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
    • Excellent organization and time management skills.
    • Demonstrated problem-solving ability.
