Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
(1)
MLA/MArch/Master of Planning or equivalent advanced degree; (2) evidence of professional practice and/or outreach experience; (3) experience and interest in in teach design studio and seminars at undergraduate and graduate levels; (4) experience working with community groups, organizations, and/or public on design and planning projects, ideally resulting in tangible outcomes; issues (5) commitment to contributing to the greater e mission of the department and land-grant mission of Rutgers New Brunswick
A PhD in landscape architecture or a related field and a professional license in landscape architecture or planning is strongly desired but not required.

Overview |
The Department of Landscape Architecture in the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position focused on resilient open space design. This position builds upon the growing body of research on climate action and community engagement to develop nature-based solutions to explore resilient alternatives to the natural, rural, farmland, suburban, and urban open space sustainability. The ideal candidate brings a commitment to applied research that engages with New Jersey's diverse and varied communities in the capacity for landscape design and management to address their concerns and achieve their aspirations, as well as a commitment to student experiential learning and service-learning opportunities. The goal is a rich portfolio of scholarship and teaching that addresses community resilience, green infrastructure, and greening, and strategies for long-term management to address climate change and support creativity, cultural diversity, and human expression. We welcome participants in the landscape performance, environmental design, urban planning, participatory design, and environmental justice fields.
A faculty hire in Resilient Open Space Design, Management, and Engagement is core to the mission of the department and the education of future Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning professionals. Collaboration is essential to addressing the complexity of environmental and community conditions. The successful candidate will engage with the many centers of research on campus, including the Rutgers Climate Energy Institute, the Center for Urban Environmental Sustainability, the Institute of Food Nutrition and Health, Eagleton Institute for Politics, the Institute for Research on Women, Office of Urban Extension and Engagement. Responsibilities include establishing and directing an independent research program, pursuing and securing grant funding, undergraduate and graduate teaching in design and planning studios and other courses, and service on departmental committees.
