Purpose
Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for providing technical advice and support for the Materials division operations, the company Sales department and external customers. Supervises the Quality Assurance Technicians and their work products. Evaluates and interprets material testing results to maintain product quality and provide accurate job specifications. This position qualifies for a month truck allowance.
Focus & Scope
Essential duties and responsibilities, i.e. those which are basic, necessary, and an integral part of the job, are indicated below:
- Supervises the Quality Assurance Technician's duties that may include (but are not limited to): evaluating and interpreting technician's materials test results, providing knowledge, training and tools to meet job requirements, planning and scheduling shifts to provide work coverage as needed, ensuring required certifications are maintained.
- Provides sales support such as specification reviews, material submittals, material evaluation and customer service; may also provide technical support to Sales and customers for Aggregate, Asphalt or Readymix operations including mix design submittals.
- Determines quality assurance and control, R & D testing program requirements, and ensures the appropriate facilities, equipment and materials are available.
- Analyzes test data to determine specification compliance, material variability and material quality trends. Implements test data analysis and test data reporting policies.
- Prepares material compliant reports, specification reviews, material test data analysis reports and project reports.
- Maintains administrative, personnel training, proficiency sample program and laboratory accreditation records.
- Responsible for hiring, training, assigning work duties, establishing workflows and priorities, coaching, providing performance feedback, accurately reporting hours worked, and time away.
- Promotes a Zero Injury culture through personal adherence to all company safety policies and practices.
Role Qualifications & Requirements
Education:
- A High School diploma or G.E.D. plus 2 years of college level courses or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
Specific Job Requirements:
- Eight years of industry related work experience.
- Must possess Caltrans JTCP HMA I, HMA II, NICET or NAQT for Nevada Certifications. Certification requirement will depend on assigned location. * Must possess ACI Aggregate Testing Tech I, Tech II and Aggregate/Soils Base Testing Technician Certificate. Certification requirement will depend on assigned location. * Must demonstrate the ability to lead, manage, coach, mentor and develop assigned staff.
- Must possess time management and organizational skills.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak, write and understand English at a proficient and understandable level.
- Must possess advanced knowledge of computer software programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, and Stonemont.
- Must possess advanced knowledge of construction materials testing and related technology.
- Must possess mathematical ability to perform algebraic problem solving and statistical analysis.
- Must demonstrate ability to learn and use department specific computer programs and systems.
- Must be able to exercise independent judgment and adjust decision making as needed.
- Must demonstrate an ability to work in a team environment and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff and management.
- Must possess a valid California Driver License and must maintain an acceptable driving record.

- Physical: Viewing of computer monitor. Keyboarding; use of fingers to make small movements such as typing and mouse usage. Driving to plant sites, other offices or meeting sites. Position may require lifting of materials and equipment up to 85 lbs. May require walking on uneven ground, climbing, reaching, bending or stooping. Use of general tools for maintenance, repair and testing of equipment
- Work Environment: Plant locations may contain dust, fumes, debris, medium to loud levels of noise and extreme weather conditions including excessive heat or cold and rain prevalent at times. Travel may be required to other locations, site facilities, customer/project sites, or educational seminars. Typical office environment with adequate temperatures and lighting, low levels of noise. Lab testing environment may contain dust and medium to loud levels of noise with variations in temperature.
