Sanitation Driver I

Summary

Responsible for operating a variety of solid waste vehicles (Side Loader, Roll Off, Rear Loader, Long Truck, or Front Loader) to collect and transport solid waste and recycling materials to the transfer station and/or landfill for disposal on a daily basis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain the functionality, appearance and safety of the equipment and/or facilities.

• Remove and transport solid waste or recyclable materials for city residents, and commercial businesses to transfer stations or landfill.

• Maintain safe and efficient operation of solid waste collection and transport equipment and vehicles.

• Perform pre-trip/ post-trip vehicle inspections and complete daily work sheet for equipment operated.

• Respond to customer relations problems and assist disabled residents.

• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and 6 months related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

• Class A Texas Driver's License for Long Truck, or Class B for Side Loader, Roll Off, Rear Loader, or Front Loader.

• Completion of a defensive driving course within 6 months of hire

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

The incumbent works primarily in a vehicle; long drive time or outside work on a daily basis in all weather conditions; frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Must be able to lift 50 pounds or more several times daily.
