The Medical Director of Miller-Keystone Blood Center (MKBC) provides clinical leadership and oversight for all aspects of transfusion medicine and blood banking services. This role ensures the safety, quality, and compliance of activities related to blood collection, processing, testing, storage, and distribution. The Medical Director ensures these processes align with medical standards and safety requirements.

What you will be doing:



  • Provide oversight to maintain high standards of medical care, donor eligibility, and blood product safety across all operations in compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements (e.g., FDA, AABB, CLIA).
  • Review and approve SOPs, validations, reports, and donor records; supervise the AABB accredited Immunohematology Reference Laboratory operations; and ensure testing accuracy, regulatory compliance, and continuous quality improvement. Counsel donors about test results and conditions affecting donor eligibility.
  • Advise internal teams on complex medical decisions, donor reactions, transfusion events, and non-conforming products; liaise with hospital physicians and external stakeholders as needed.
  • Stay current with regulatory and scientific developments to advise leadership, support innovation, manage risks, and drive strategic planning and policy development.
  • Develop and support education for staff, fellows, technologists, and partner institutions; participate in external education, assessment teams, and professional forums.
  • Serve as the medical and scientific representative at conferences, on advisory boards, and in community and public outreach efforts aligned with the organization's mission.
  • Provide executive-level leadership including hiring, training, evaluating, and mentoring personnel; promote professional growth and ensure departmental performance.
  • Collaborate in budget development and financial planning for medical and quality services; evaluate cost-effectiveness of programs and ensure responsible stewardship of resources.


What you will bring to the role:



  • A Medical Degree (D.O. or M.D.) with Board Certification in Clinical Pathology, Internal Medicine, or Hematology and Board Eligible or Board Certified in Transfusion Medicine/Blood Banking are required.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience working in healthcare/medical fields with a concentration in blood banking is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a regulatory and compliance-driven environment and understanding of AABB, CLIA, FDA, cGMP, and local state regulations and standards.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and related applications.
  • Medical licensure in PA and NJ
  • Flexible and adaptable to evolving job responsibilities and workplace needs.
  • Proficient in collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, with stakeholders and audiences at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Ability to travel (10%+) to support collection locations, community events, and trade shows.


Additional information:

This position will be based in Bethlehem, PA, facility. The regular schedule will be Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Successful completion of a background check and drug screen are required.
