Position Summary We are seeking a highly motivated Research Technician to support projects focused on the generation and characterization of ocular cell types from human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs). The technician will play a key role in culturing and differentiating hiPSCs into various ocular cell types. The position will also involve molecular and cell biology assays to assess cell identity, health, and function. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with strong cell culture skills and an interest in regenerative ophthalmology and disease modeling. Responsibilities Create modified hiPSC lines using CRISPR Culture, expand, and maintain hiPSC lines using sterile technique and best practices for pluripotent stem cell care Differentiate hiPSCs into ocular cell types using established protocols (or assist in protocol development and optimization) Perform assays to assess cell identity, purity, and function (e.g., immunocytochemistry, qPCR, flow cytometry, ELISA) Assist in standard molecular biology techniques (RNA/DNA isolation, PCR, Western blotting) Document experimental data clearly and accurately using electronic lab notebooks (ELNs) Maintain accurate inventory of cell lines, reagents, and consumables for stem cell and ocular differentiation work Ensure compliance with institutional guidelines for cell culture, biosafety, and human stem cell research Ensure compliance with institutional guidelines for cell culture, biosafety, and human stem cell research Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in cell biology, biomedical sciences, or a related life science field Familiarity with standard molecular and cell biology techniques Excellent sterile technique and meticulous attention to detail Strong organizational and communication skills Preferred Qualifications Experience with immunofluorescence imaging and confocal microscopy Experience creating a new tissue-specific directed differentiation protocol Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture; previous experience with hiPSC or hESC maintenance is strongly preferred Equal Opportunity Employer / Disability / Veteran Columbia University is committed to the hiring of qualified local residents.
