The Theatre and Drama Department is a fast-paced environment serving our students through academic courses and practicum. Part of that course load also contains our four self-produced productions per year.

The Scenic Studio Assistant plays a key role in supporting student learning and contributing to the execution of theatrical designs within the Theatre Arts Department. This role assists with instruction and mentorship in the Scene Studio and theatre spaces and helps teach sections of Theatre 472: Scenic Painting under the supervision of the Scene Studio Supervisor. The person in this role helps maintain tools, supplies, and workspaces to ensure a safe and organized environment for classes and productions. Responsibilities include preparing paint samples and executing scenic treatments, textures, and finishes based on designer specifications for University Theatre productions. The Scenic Studio Assistant works both independently and collaboratively with students to achieve high-quality visual results. Additional duties include assisting with daily studio operations, acquiring materials, and completing special projects as assigned. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a creative, educational setting and enjoys contributing to a dynamic artistic community.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Serves as an initial point of contact for students as it relates to specific course or series content and expectations
  • Facilitates classroom and/or laboratory instruction for one or more courses including assessment of student performance
  • Assists with the development of instructional design and curriculum relevant to a course of instruction under the direction of an academic staff or faculty member

Assists in creating and painting sets for Department productions.

Compensation:

$45,000.00 annually

Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated knowledge of theatrical painting techniques, strong organization, time management and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

3-5 years professional experience preferred.

Bachelors Degree Required
