The Team

The Communications Division leads the foundation's global communications strategy-planning, developing, and executing efforts that inform and engage stakeholders, partners, policymakers, employees, and the broader public. Our goal is to advance the foundation's mission of a more equitable world by building trust, deepening understanding, and increasing visibility of the work and progress we support.

This role sits within the Brand, Editorial, and Content (BEC) team, which is responsible for shaping and expressing the foundation's brand. The BEC team builds creative strategies, develops content across digital and social channels, and leads storytelling efforts that build audience connections, increase brand recognition, and drive advocacy goals. The team works in close collaboration with program, regional, and advocacy colleagues to translate complex strategies into clear, engaging, and audience-first storytelling across formats-from videos and motion graphics to photography, audio, copy, and design.

*This position is a limited-term position for 12 months. Relocation will not be provided.

Your Role

The Senior Communications Officer - Content is a key member of the BEC team, reporting to the Interim Senior Manager of Story Development & Writing. You'll work closely with colleagues across the Global Content & Campaigns (GC&C) team-as well as partners in regional offices, and the Program Advocacy and Communications (PAC) team-to shape and deliver high-impact content that supports the foundation's advocacy, brand, and storytelling goals. This includes digital campaigns, editorial features, social-first content, and experiences that inspire priority audiences and elevate the voices of changemakers around the world.

Your focus will be leading and commissioning content that performs across key platforms-including Instagram, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn, YouTube, the foundation's website, and email/newsletter channels. You'll collaborate with integrated campaign, channels, brand creative, policy & advocacy, and regional leads to translate complex topics into compelling visual and narrative content that resonates emotionally, performs on social platforms, builds issue salience, and drives audience engagement and action in support of our mission. This includes traveling to capture and develop content for the foundation's CEO or other Executive Leadership Team (ELT) members. You'll guide content through each stage of development-from ideation and pre-production to final delivery and publication-in close collaboration with colleagues across GC&C who bring expertise in channel strategies, audience engagement, measurement & insights, campaign planning, and project management to ensure alignment, consistency, and impact.

While digital storytelling is at the core of this role, it also includes planning and producing live activations such as panel events, screenings, campaign launches, and gatherings like Goalkeepers or anniversary celebrations. Whether content lives online or on stage, you'll play a central role in helping audiences connect with the foundation's mission and the people driving progress globally. This role also helps foster an inclusive creative process-championing diverse voices and perspectives in every story we tell.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the development and delivery of content for digital campaigns, storytelling moments, and CEO and ELT voice amplification-ensuring alignment with brand, program, and advocacy priorities.
  • Serve as a hands-on producer: travel internationally to capture stories in the field, build relationships with partners and champions, lead on-site production teams, conduct interviews, guide visual storytelling, and provide detailed direction through post-production and review cycles.
  • Commission and create high-performing content for platforms like Instagram, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn, YouTube, the foundation's website, and email/newsletter channels.
  • Translate complex strategies-especially related to maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH)-into compelling creative briefs and narrative content designed to engage diverse audiences.
  • Guide content through the full production process-from ideation and pre-production to final delivery and publication-ensuring quality, alignment, and creative consistency across teams.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across brand, channels, PAC, and regional teams to ensure content is grounded in measurement and insights (from our M&I team) and tailored to audience needs.
  • Support live storytelling activations such as panel events, screenings, and campaign launches-developing content and experiences that enhance emotional connection and audience impact.
  • Manage creative vendor relationships, project budgets, and production timelines to deliver high-quality content efficiently and on schedule.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively while navigating cross-functional teams-building trust and collaboration across technical and non-technical partners in nonprofit, public health, government, or advocacy settings, in a global and cross-cultural contexts.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% domestic and international

Your Experience

The ideal candidate is a strategic, creative communicator with experience leading content development and production for high-profile digital campaigns and storytelling initiatives. They bring strong judgment, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to translate complex, global issues into content that resonates across platforms and audiences. They are digitally fluent, comfortable managing creative teams and vendors, and eager to work across cultures and disciplines. Candidates with lived experience, cultural proximity, language skills, or deep personal connection to global health, education, and economic issues we focus on are strongly encouraged to apply. Additional qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Communications, Multimedia, Film, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Political Science, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of professional experience in communications, with an emphasis on content production, digital media, including a strong portfolio of visual or written work and high-impact social content.
  • Demonstrated experience leading end-to-end content production, including creative direction, on-location fieldwork and leadership, and post-production review cycles.
  • Proficiency in developing cross-channel content strategies and creative briefs that translate complex topics-especially in global health or development-into audience-first storytelling.
  • Strong understanding of digital and social platforms (Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, YouTube) and what drives reach, engagement, and performance across them.
  • Experience working with creative vendors, agencies, or production teams to deliver high-quality, story-driven content on time and within budget.
  • Knowledge of global health and development issues, especially maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH), with the ability to convey these topics accessibly, accurately, and meaningfully.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, paired with deep and attentive listening and interpersonal sensitivity that foster trust-especially when working with partners who may be sharing personal or emotionally complex stories.
  • Background in nonprofit, public health, government, or advocacy communications preferred; global or cross-cultural experience strongly valued.

The salary range for this role is $169,700.00-$254,500.00 USD Annual USD. We recognize high-wage market differences in Seattle and Washington D.C., where our offices are located. The range for this role in these locations is $185,000.00-$277,400.00 USD. As a mission-driven organization, we strive to balance competitive pay with our mission. New hire salaries are typically between the range minimum and the midpoint. Actual placement in the range will depend on a candidate's job-related skills, experience, and expertise, as evaluated during the interview process.
