Summary
Leads staff to manufacture quality products within established safety, productivity and quality, and profitability standards. Improves related systems, methods, processes and associates' performance; creates healthy and productive work environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Creates a safe work environment by adopting and promoting programs & rules that meet regulatory and Company requirements and the safety of workers; and by reinforcing positive safety actions while eliminating unsafe acts/programs; by bringing safety to associates awareness; by ensuring facility is secure and procedures are followed at beginning/end of shifts. Ensures associates properly disposing of hazardous waste into designated containers. Disposal must be conducted according to state and federal regulations.
- Enhances manufacturing staff job results by selecting, orienting, training, coaching, counseling, and disciplining associates; develops and utilizes on-going feedback mechanisms, and ensures performance expectations are understood and met, appraising job results. Directs activities of departments and schedules operations to meet demands of customers; creates a flexible workforce that is skilled to support on-time and in-full objectives.
- Ensures manufacturing standards, methods, and procedures and systems by studying product requirements, assuring Chemical/Mixing/Coating areas adhere to Quality Policy system, SMPs, customer specification; by meeting production schedule, following safety standards, reducing costs, and fostering good associate relations. Enhances current methods by recommending process improvements, providing fact-based data and implementing improvements in quality, cost, safety, productivity.
- Maximizes profits by scheduling products and people for optimization, leading set up reduction and other lean manufacturing initiatives; monitoring run/yield reports and improving results; ensuring high quality products at optimal profit levels.
- Improves customer satisfaction by overseeing the production of product that meets or surpassing customer expectations; by leading CCR/CAR investigations and incorporating corrective actions that reduce or eliminate repeat/similar concerns; by supporting new product development runs; by improving production yields so price is considered a high value for customers; by ensuring on-time and in-full shipments.
- Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, summarizing and communicating information and trends; by providing information needed to monitor AOP and KPI's.
- Creates a healthy and productive culture by advising, training, and coaching employees on new products, concepts, employee relations and projects; by aligning performance metrics to corporate strategies and annual operating plans; by enhancing communication between departments and providing fact-based information in a timely, direct; keeps management informed by communicating operation's performance, production activities and non-conformance reports on a daily basis.
- Initiates, leads and provides results for related projects by determining objectives and priorities, reviewing project proposals and plans, conferring with management, determining project specifications (product or process design, customer requirements, performance standards, etc), completing technical studies, making recommendations. Ensures projects are aligned with business needs, processes capital expenditure requests, implements and measures success.
- Maintains equipment by ensuring preventative maintenance programs are adequate for level of production.
- Process the hourly payroll and ensure that time and attendance for assigned employees is accurate in data collection system, according to each employee schedule, as well as vacations and overtime.
- Creates personal development plans for employees based on their interests and abilities, coordinates cross-training, and schedule employee job rotation to ensure skills and knowledge stay current.

- Reduces costs by improving quality, controlling finances and by reducing and/or eliminating waste.
- Maintains company reputation by complying with government regulation, preserving proprietary information, and by representing the Company in a professional manner.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and training, reviewing professional publications, participating in professional societies and establishing personal networks.
- Supports continuous improvement by developing individual and team efforts to meet and exceed corporate objectives and by recommending improvements to safety, quality, service, and processes.
- Supports company goals by participating in meetings and activities, participating in customer visits and audits, contributing to team efforts, and providing additional support to Company, as necessary to meet departmental and corporate needs.
Requirements

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:
- Excellent people skills (leadership, motivation, effective communication skills), mechanical skills, analytical thinking (interpreting data, root cause analysis, ability to improve systems), trouble-shooting, problem-solving, project management, excellent database/spreadsheet skills.
- Proven experience leading/driving Continuous Improvement initiatives.
Education and Experience
- A High School Diploma or equivalent is required, a Bachelors/Associates degree is preferred.
- At least five (5) years of experience in developing/leading associates, and a thorough understanding of similar manufacturing systems/operations.
- Candidate must have a successful history of continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ideal candidate will have manufacturing experience in a regulated industry including experience as machine operator, and in press/printing/coating operations.
