Position Overview:

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Benefits Manager to lead the design, administration, compliance, and communication of our U.S. employee benefits programs. This role is responsible for ensuring our offerings are competitive, cost-effective, and aligned with both regulatory requirements and the needs of a diverse workforce, including salaried and union-represented employees in a manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will bring expertise across health & welfare (H&W), retirement (401k), financial wellness, workers' compensation, well-ness programming, and internal and external benefits communications-along with a strong understanding of benefit-related reporting requirements for publicly traded companies.

How you will impact Ingevity:

Strategy & Program Management

  • Develop and execute a benefits strategy that aligns with company goals and supports employee well-being, attraction, and retention.
  • Monitor market trends, benchmarking data, and utilization metrics to recommend benefit enhancements or cost containment strategies.
  • Support M&A or divestiture activities from a benefits integration or transition perspective.

Health & Welfare (H&W)

  • Oversee daily operations and vendor relationships for medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and supplemental plans.
  • Ensure benefit programs remain compliant with federal, state, and local regulations including ERISA, ACA, COBRA, and HIPAA.
  • Administer leave programs in partnership with HR operations and legal teams, ensuring consistency and compliance.

Retirement & Financial Benefits

  • Manage 401(k) and other retirement plan activities, including plan design, non-discrimination testing, audits, and annual filings (e.g., Form 5500).
  • Collaborate with Finance and Legal on benefits-related disclosures for SEC filings, proxy statements, and other public reporting obligations.
  • Promote financial wellness programs that support employees' budgeting, savings, and long-term planning goals.

Wellness Programs

  • Design and manage wellness initiatives that promote physical, emotional, and mental health across employee populations.
  • Track engagement, measure ROI, and evolve offerings based on employee needs and program impact.

Workers' Compensation

  • Oversee the workers' compensation process, collaborating with Safety, Legal, and third-party administrators on claims management and return-to-work efforts.
  • Monitor claim trends and recommend preventative strategies in alignment with work-place safety initiatives.

Union & Compliance Considerations

  • Administer benefits in accordance with collective bargaining agreements.
  • Support labor negotiations by providing data, insights, and benchmarking related to benefit programs and costs.
  • Communications & Engagement
  • Develop clear and engaging benefit communications for all employee segments, including open enrollment materials, FAQs, and targeted campaigns.
  • Partner with internal communications, HR, and managers to ensure benefits are well understood and accessible to all employees.

What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business, Finance, or a related field; CEBS or equivalent certification preferred.
  • 8 years of progressive experience in benefits management, with a demonstrated ability to balance strategic planning and hands-on execution.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. benefit laws, retirement plan compliance, and workers' compensation administration.
  • 2-3 years' experience supporting benefits programs for both salaried and union employees in a manufacturing setting.
  • Familiarity with public company reporting requirements related to executive compensation and benefits disclosures.
  • Proven ability to manage vendors, analyze data, and effectively communicate complex information to varied audiences.
  • Proficiency in HRIS platforms (Workday preferred), Microsoft Excel, and benefits administration systems.
  • This position is eligible for relocation assistance.

This position follows a hybrid working schedule where Monday and Friday are work from home and Tuesday-Thursday are in office.
