About the Job

80% - Technical Duties
* Under the direction of a DVM, performs a variety of medical and diagnostic procedures depending upon clinical indications and area of service; may perform intravenous and related therapies (i.e. fluids, chemotherapies and/or anesthesia), obtaining samples, etc.
* Assists clinicians, clients and patients with receiving, assessment, work-up, discharge, etc. Prepares patients for a variety of veterinary medical procedures, including preparation for specialty care treatments and services (i.e. COHATs, periodontal therapies, oral surgery, etc.), radiographic procedures (i.e. CBCT and dental radiographs), catheterizations, venipunctures, vaccinations, anesthesia, administration of medications and treatments, etc.
* Answers questions by explaining and demonstrating procedures and equipment while teaching interns, veterinary students and student technicians and other technicians who may be training.
* Assist clinicians, co-workers, interns, residents and students in the assigned work area/service.

10% - Receiving
* Client greeting and receiving.
* Collect patient history, perform physical examination and sample collection, when necessary.
* Animal cage assignment and set-up.
* Assist with in-hospital patient care (i.e. ER, ICU, ICW, PACU, Wards, etc.).

5% - Client/rDVM Communication
* Answer incoming phone calls and service emails from clients, as well as, rDVMs and acting as a liaison between internal and external customers

5% - Other Functions
* Participates in daily rounds.
* Assist in maintaining a clean hospital environment while ensuring that areas are adequately stocked and equipment is in working order.
* Assist in other services areas - develops skills that are cross-functional and uses time efficiently which including helping other areas of the hospital.
* Other duties as assigned by Specialties Supervisor, Director of Small Animal Patient Services or Director of Operations
* Performs record-keeping tasks related to medical procedures, including recording of: procedures completed, supplies used, patient status, client communications, census information, etc.
* Responsible to ensure that all services and supplies are charged for according to hospital fee schedule.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Must be able to restrain and handle animals and/or assist with animal restraint and handling.

Preferred Qualifications:
Problem solving skills, strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, knowledge of proper restraint and handling of small animals, as well as large animals (i.e. equine). Interest in Large Animal dental care, specifically Equine Dentistry.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range:$21.63 - $25.49; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 75%-100% Appointment (If job description above does not specify appointment or expected weekly hours, assume a 100% appointment.)
