Department Overview
The Health Sciences Libraries Department spans the contemporary Health Sciences Library and the Wangensteen Historical Library of Biology and Medicine. The work of the Department is realized through the deep disciplinary expertise of its staff, who bring specialized knowledge related to evidence-based practice, systematic reviews and evidence synthesis, and the history of biology and health, along with broad skills related to information literacy and critical appraisal. Our staff advance the University Libraries' strategic plan and bring forward an overarching programmatic vision in alignment with the research, teaching, learning, clinical, and interprofessional information needs of the six schools and colleges of the Health Sciences (Medical School, School of Public Health, College of Pharmacy, School of Nursing, College of Veterinary Medicine) across the Twin Cities, Duluth, Rochester, and St. Cloud Campuses. Additional liaison responsibilities include the Program in the History of Science and Technology, the Center for Allied Health Programs, and the biomedical sciences. POSITION OVERVIEW This position is a Temporary & Casual Employee classified Interim Health Sciences librarian position for up to 14 hours (maximum) of work per week through the duration of employment. This position reports to the Associate Director for Education & Research Services in the Health Sciences Library. The Interim Health Sciences Librarian joins a team of 8 health sciences librarians who work to advance the teaching, learning, and research initiatives of the University of Minnesota health sciences programs. The Interim Health Sciences Librarian holds the primary responsibilities for teaching, consultations, and literature searches. This position will primarily work with faculty, staff and students in the School of Public Health, and may be assigned literature search and instruction responsibilities in classes or via consultations by other health sciences programs as needed. Our culture is one of continual on-the-job training and mentorship and support, including for our temporary employees. Due to the nature of temporary employment, prior relevant knowledge and experience are required as detailed in the qualifications section. This position is primarily remote, with some expectations to be on campus for in-person instruction activities as requested by faculty, and for monthly librarian departmental meetings.
