Visa Technology & Operations LLC, a Visa Inc. company, needs a Staff Systems Engineer (multiple openings) in Ashburn, VA to:
- Collaborate with Cloud Architects and fellow engineers to actively contribute to our public cloud strategy and standards.
- Design and implement agile, innovative cloud infrastructure and management solutions that harness technology advancements for cost reduction, standardization, and commoditization.
- Adopt a cloud-native approach for the development of greenfield solutions, considering business goals, objectives, and requirements, while ensuring the integration with legacy solutions.
- Identify and utilize standard toolsets to lessen complexity and further operational goals for extensive automation across the enterprise.
- Work with the team to mature the cloud ecosystem, establish standards, and integrate infrastructure management domains - including logging, monitoring, configuration management, and orchestration.
- Promote continuous, iterative enhancements in our processes, technology, tools, and automation to achieve objectives.
- Incorporate security measures into all project stages - design, implementation, and operations.
- Define, document, and maintain standard designs and processes, ensuring documentation is updated with each modification or change.
- Provide knowledge transfer to peers and operations team on architecture, design, and delivery of public cloud solutions.
- Facilitate knowledge transfer to peers and the operations team on public cloud solution architecture, design, and delivery.
- Mentor junior team members to enhance team competencies and skills.
- Position reports to the Ashburn, VA office and may allow for partial telecommuting.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or related field, followed by 5 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in job offered or in a Systems Engineer-related occupation.
- Alternative, Employer will accept a Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or related field and 2 years of experience in a Systems Engineer-related occupation.
- Position requires experience in the following skills:
- AWS/GCP/Azure services such as networking, compute, and database.
- Designing, building, and running production systems in cloud or migrating to the cloud, practicing infrastructure as code, automated testing, autoscaling, and self-healing.
- Infrastructure as code with tools including Terraform, Pulumi, and configuration management tools including Ansible.
- Managing production container ecosystems, including Docker, Kubernetes, Service Mesh (Istio or Linkerd), and CNI (Calico or Cilium).
- Cloud-native monitoring and APM tools, including AWS Cloudwatch, GCP Cloud Operations Suites, and Azure Monitor.
- Using and optimizing monitoring and observability systems and experience in Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemeter standards.
- Understanding of the Software Development Process, including Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipeline tools Jenkins and GitLab.
- Container deployments in Kubernetes environments using ArgoCD or Flux.
- Security tools and standard methodologies, including CIS Benchmarking, OS hardening, vulnerability scanning, and system auditing.
Additional Information
Worksite: Ashburn, VA This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs. Travel Requirements: This position does not require travel. Mental/Physical Requirements:This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.
