Job Summary

The Production Manager is responsible for managing the workforce to ensure the production of our products meets or exceeds our customers' specifications. Participate in continued development of our safety culture. Ensure that preventive action is taken to avoid nonconformities relating to product, process or the quality system. Participate in the coordination of preventative maintenance during outages to maintain a safe and effective flow of work to reduce downtime.

Essential Functions

Manages the manufacturing functions on all shifts. This includes: planning the production flow; troubleshooting manufacturing issues; handling staffing issues; monitoring production orders and schedules; etc.

Develops and analyzes production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.

Develops and works with Production Supervisors or Production Leads. Provides assistance to employees in solving work-related problems. Works with Human Resources to determine the most effective resolution(s).

Develops and revises standard operational and working practices and observes associates to ensure compliance.

Identifies projects and methods to improve performance in all areas of manufacturing.

Physical/Environ. Demands

Requires the use of safety equipment as dictated by the work area such as safety glasses and shoes, dust mask, hard hat, respirator, face shield, hearing protection, chemical suit, gloves, aprons, etc. Work is inside and the typical noise level is loud. Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration.

Responsibilities:

* Provide leadership to ensure all company safety rules and regulations in accordance with regulatory agencies are observed by employees. This includes planning the necessary resources in manpower and assist in budgeting to accomplish site safety goals and administer safety initiatives.

* Ensure quality of product during process and adjust production plans to meet customer requirements

* Actively participate in the weekly scheduling meeting between maintenance and production while managing overtime efficiently

* Participate in the daily morning production meeting to communicate with production and maintenance

* Ensure the execution of the daily production plan. Explains significant variances from the plan and provides leadership for improvements within the operations groups

* Demonstrated ability to assess organizational and people issues, provide coaching and mentoring, and deliver solutions that improve facility performance skills

* Possess skills in system, project and people management and oversee various actives while motivating and guiding others to accomplish common goal

* Demonstrate conceptual thinking, with the skill to see the big picture and understanding the wider knowledge in context with the organization's strategy

* Demonstrated ability to assess organizational and people issues, provide coaching and mentoring, and deliver solutions that improve facility performance; Demonstrated ability to take initiative, strong organization and prioritization skills

* Establishes and maintains highly productive working relationships across the organization with all groups within the region and the company; demonstrating respect for conflicting points of view, listens to others, and builds strong working relationships

* Knows appropriate negotiating tactics and is able to negotiate win/win agreements without compromising principles

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

* Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Business or related field

* 4+ years Manager experience in heavy industrial manufacturing environment; previous experience as department manager or superintendent for larger facilities would also be a fit; industry background in manufacturing related to mining, paper mills, steel plants, refractory, heavy equipment fabrication, stone processing, cement plants, etc. preferred

* Extensive knowledge and background in operations supply chain business processes, continuous manufacturing and production processes, and working contemporary concepts of continuous improvement and Lean Manufacturing

* Positive & proactive attitude with ability to address issues and implement solutions

* Demonstrable success in cultural 'turn around' a plus

* Proven in leading operational excellence through applying behavior based management

* Prior experience demonstrating effective management skills

* Demonstrable team work and maturity with a strong work ethic

* Fluency in spoken and written English

Typically reports to Plant Manger, Sr. Manufacturing Manager, General Manager or equivalent.
