About The Role: As an Entry-Level Construction Materials Engineer in Augusta, Georgia, you will help uphold the quality and safety of construction projects by testing and validating the materials used. Guided by a Licensed Engineer, your responsibilities will include conducting fieldwork, documenting subsurface conditions, assisting with calculations and design tasks, contributing to the development of proposals and reports, and providing general support to both projects and clients.
- Material testing and inspection: Carry out tests and monitor special inspections on construction materials like concrete, asphalt, soil, and more to confirm compliance with specifications and relevant standards.
- Reviewing design documents: Examine construction drawings and specifications to ensure they are consistent with project requirements prior to conducting site visits.
- Field documentation: Track and record on-site activities and test outcomes in detail throughout the project lifecycle, using tools like Metafield or similar systems to streamline data entry and coordination.
- Report and proposal development: Assist in creating technical reports and proposals for smaller-scale projects, ensuring all findings are clearly documented and well-supported.
- Daily communication: Maintain regular contact with supervisors, contractors, and clients to share updates, clarify expectations, and support project alignment.
About You:
- You have a Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering or a similar engineering field
- You have 0-2 years of experience in construction materials testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt
- You have an Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or on track to obtain
- You are willing to obtain at least one (1) industry certification within 6 months of employment
- You have basic math and communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
You Are Willing and Able to: Perform the physical demands of the position with the use of company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:
- Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
- Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially up to 12 hours a day
- Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
- Maneuvering field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground around active construction sites
