Job Summary

Scottsdale Community College (SCC) is seeking a full-time Library Specialist. The Library Specialist performs a variety of library duties related to the support of students, faculty, administrators, staff, and community users. The job duties include providing direct customer service at the public service desk and resolving issues or problems. Responsibilities will include processing and maintaining the periodical collection, as well as processing all interlibrary loan requests. The Library Specialist will be responsible for closing the library facility at night and securing the facility and its contents.

To best serve the students, department, and college, this position requires a physical presence on campus.

Essential Functions

35%- Provides direct customer service at the public service/circulation desk; performs a variety of circulation tasks, reinforces library policies and procedures, and responds to requests and complaints while maintaining a positive customer service environment.

25%- Receives, processes, and maintains the periodical collection.

20%- Oversees the daily process of interlibrary material loans utilizing library resources such as ILLiad Client Server, and Online Computer Library Center (OCLC)

10%- Troubleshoots issues with library computers, printers, copiers, and laptops; refers issues to the IT Department as needed. Provides assistance with identifying, ordering, and processing library print and non-print materials.

10%- Assists and provides work direction to library student workers and technicians as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and one year of experience in library support services such as library information resources, circulation services, and equipment coordination.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above, sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job, such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Desired Bachelor's Degree.
  2. Three (3) or more years of in-person customer service experience.
  3. Two (2) or more years of paraprofessional library experience using an integrated library system, for example, Alma, Symphony, or Polaris.
  4. Two (2) or more years of experience with computers (PC and/or Mac) and basic software troubleshooting, including Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and internet browsers.
  5. Experience processing library materials (books and DVDs, periodicals, course reserves, interlibrary loans, and other appropriate library materials).


Special Working Conditions
  • Will be required to travel to other MCCCD locations if needed for training.
  • Will be required to work evenings.
  • May require prolonged periods of sitting and viewing a computer screen.
  • May be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs.
  • This position requires a physical presence on campus.
  • At this time, Scottsdale Community College does not provide Visa Sponsorship.
  • This is a short-term position with a projected end date of 06/30/2026, with renewal contingent on funding source.
  • External candidates hired into a short-term benefits-eligible position are ineligible for rehire into a non-benefits-eligible position or to continue working in a non-benefits-eligible position for a period of six months once their assignment
