Payroll Manager SUMMARY Mortenson is seeking a Payroll Manager to lead and oversee daily payroll functions. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee daily payroll operations to ensure timely and accurate payment of team members, support operational needs, and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Implement and maintain robust business processes and internal controls to manage risk and meet deadlines for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Supervise and mentor team members to ensure efficient performance, including strategic resource planning, interviewing, hiring recommendations, and performance management. Utilize performance metrics to proactively manage payroll resource needs and team performance.
- Provide mentorship and development opportunities, staying updated on best practices in payroll to develop department goals and programs. Foster a culture of accountability focused on continuous process improvement and risk minimization
- Develop and maintain department procedures and company policies. Understand the technology roadmap for Payroll and third-party vendors like ADP, monitoring new releases and capabilities, and leading system upgrades/new implementations.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert for special projects and participate in department projects and company initiatives. Implement best practices and support lean innovation.
- Collaborate with the other Payroll Operations Team to ensure successful service delivery. Build effective business relationships within Mortenson to support business needs.
- Work closely with Operations, Project Accounting, and Business Service Groups to drive strategic and process improvements, enhance operational efficiency, and reduce costs. Lead by example, providing effective coaching and feedback to manage team performance.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience. Certified Payroll Professional certification desired.
- Minimum five years of experience as a payroll administrator, with progressively more complex assignments. Supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience with Canadian and Union workforces is a plus.
- Strong computer skills, with experience using an integrated payroll and time and attendance system required. Oracle Cloud payroll and UKG Workforce Management experience preferred. Advanced Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills.
- Leadership skills: ability to set and assist with setting strategic direction, implement change, and create a culture of accountability within the team. Ability to lead a team, drive them to meet expectations and deadlines, and work with different personalities and work styles.
- Superior organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to address complex payroll topics, summarize/tailor information for a specific audience, and present effectively.
- Professional, business-driven mentality with the ability to communicate and interact with all levels of the organization, as well as external parties. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to perform in a fast-paced, changing environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Positive, professional attitude and excellent customer service skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Ability to collaborate effectively and build successful business relationships across the company. The base pay range for this role is $105,300 - $158,000. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%). Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan. Please make note:
