Job Summary

Corewell Health is seeking a Category Manager. This role provides leadership of the strategic sourcing team and corresponding activities. The Category Manager leverages the supply base to deliver maximum benefit to the organization in the form of best quality, service and value. In partnership with organizational leadership, the Category Manager evaluates new and existing supplier relationships and award business appropriate to organizational fit. The role leads, directs, evaluates and develops a team of sourcing professionals to ensure the team's resources are used effectively and work schedules and targets are met. The Category Manager is responsible for supplier contract adherence and supplier relationship management.

Essential Functions

  • Formulate and implement processes and people development strategy to build a best in class sourcing function.

  • In alignment with Spectrum Health System strategy, develop and lead cross functional teams to create and execute multi-year strategic plans to support direct and indirect spend categories, work in partnership with operational, physician and executive leadership.

  • Involved in high level negotiations and subsequently ensures the monitoring and enforcement of supplier contracts and agreements. Authority to drive negotiation with large scale, high impact suppliers.

  • Develops and benchmarks best practices amongst suppliers. Identify supply base risk and develop/implement mitigation plans including market assessments, supplier's financial assessments, social responsibility, environment, ethics etc.

  • Obtain and communicate market condition information and technology trends related to commodities and suppliers. Utilize market trends to identify and implement appropriate cost controls and business strategy changes. Serves as an expert/consultant for analysis of market conditions and interpretation of trends

  • Manage and develop continuous improvement programs, addressing quality, delivery, service as well as cost.

  • Create and manage a supplier management culture including the utilization of supplier scorecards and business reviews for key suppliers. Create and implement enterprise-wide metrics, tools and processes to optimize sourcing and supplier activities.

  • Create new, innovative relationships and strategies with key suppliers that will prepare Spectrum Health for the next decade.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree Supply Management, Business, Finance, or related field. Required

  • Master's degree Supply Management, Business, Finance, or related field. Preferred

  • 5 years of experience progressive business experience in business operations, finance, contracting or other related disciplines. Required

  • 2 years of experience prior experience leading professional-level teams. Preferred

  • 5 years of experience building new and innovative relationships and strategies with key suppliers Preferred

  • 2 years of experienceof knowledge and application of supplier contract strategy, negotiations, contractual terms, and contract administration. Preferred

  • 5 years of experience of supplier processes and supply chain risk factors including experience in assessing and mitigating risk in the supply base. Preferred

  • 5 years of experiencecontinuous improvement methodologies & cost reduction methodologies. Preferred

  • 2 years of experience operating in a highly regulated industry. Medical Device industry sourcing and supplier management experience preferred. Preferred

  • Professional certifications through APICS, ISM, AHRMM, and/or CSCMP. Preferred
