How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

This position has responsibility for the safe operation and maintenance of Airgas Merchant Gas production facilities. The production technician is responsible for maintaining plant production, operating efficiency, regulatory compliance, and safety. Due to the complexity of the skill sets needed for this position, Production Technician levels have been established to distinguish work performance capabilities and the degree of independence each task is to be performed.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate an overall understanding of plant safety rules, regulations, and company safety policies/procedures

  • Instill safety in others by being safety minded; models good safety practices.

  • Work safely in all situations

  • Identify potential maintenance needs; enter them into the work order maintenance management system (Maximo)

  • Perform all work in compliance with standard operating and maintenance procedures, utilizing current Life Safety Training skills and safety requirements including safe work permits, energy control isolation and IDLs, confined space entry work, hot work, work plans, pre-job discussions, plant safety inspections, etc.

  • Ensure contractors, visitors, co-workers and others comply with company safety policies/procedures. Issues safe work permit documentation and performs lock-out tag-out of equipment

  • Acquire knowledge/ability in all plant operations including processes and equipment

  • Exhibit instrumentation and mechanical aptitude

  • Learn and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), corporate procedures; read and interpret blueprints, flow charts, process piping ISOs, simple schematics, P&IDs, electrical schematics; perform basic math operations

  • Keep accurate records and be diligent in documentation and record retention policies and procedures

  • Demonstrate knowledge & understanding of control board and operator interface computer consoles

  • Perform operator rounds, water samples, truck loading, operations PM's

  • Maintain and expect high housekeeping and organizational standards

  • Perform other duties as assigned by Plant Management

  • All other duties based on business needs

Other Relevant Information:

  • Pay $28- $30 per hour (Please note that the hourly base pay information is a general guideline only. Airgas considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer)

  • 4% Annual Bonus

  • Hours: Rotating Swing Shift (7am to 7pm then 7pm to 7am)

  • On-Call Required

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • Candidates must have valid employment authorization in the U.S. and must not require visa sponsorship now or in the future. This position is not open for non-immigrant visa sponsorship.

  • 2 - 3 years of industrial plant / cryogenic plant experience preferred.

  • Understanding of control valve functions and systems used to control flows & pressures on industrial tanks.

  • Experience troubleshooting equipment in a plant environment.

  • Valid driver's license. Must be willing to travel and support other plant locations as needed.

  • Travel - 25% - 30%.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Air Separation Unit or Cryogenic related industrial experience is a plus.

  • Water Treatment - understanding the water treatment principles and equipment is a plus.

  • Refrigeration - A basic understanding of refrigeration systems is a plus.

  • Electrical/ Instrumentation background is a plus.
