The Opportunity

This Partnership & Access Liaison (PAL) role is a unique position dedicated to supporting patients and caregivers, with time split equally between two key therapeutic areas: Neurological Rare Disease (Evrysdi) and Gene Therapy for Inherited Retinal Dystrophy (Luxturna).

For Luxturna, this role provides national coverage across the United States, serving as the primary non-clinical and logistical point of contact for patients from program enrollment through their treatment journey. For Evrysdi, the PAL will be a "floater" in nature, covering patients in any given geography while geographical PALs are on leaves or sabbaticals. This role should expect fluidity in patient engagement.

The PAL must be able to navigate the distinct responsibilities and compliance guidelines for each therapeutic area while collaborating with internal teams to ensure a seamless and supportive experience for patients and providers.

Key Responsibilities:

The responsibilities for this role are separated by therapeutic area due to the different support models and patient needs and are subject to the business guidance for those therapeutic areas

Luxturna Responsibilities (50%)

The Luxturna PAL role is governed by strict business guidance focused on logistical, non-clinical support.

Patient Logistical Coordination:

  • Serve as the main, non-clinical point of contact for patients and their families after enrollment.
  • Work closely with patients to navigate the steps required to gain access to therapy after a treatment decision has been made.
  • Coordinate all logistical needs, including assessing and offering solutions for travel, lodging, and meals for the patient and caregivers.
  • Guide patients in selecting appropriate treatment centers.

Process & Reimbursement Facilitation:

  • Act as a facilitator and information source for the Benefits Investigation (BI) and Prior Authorization (PA) process, which is driven by the Treatment Center (TC).
  • Educate patients and TC staff on payer policies, procedures, and available, approved resources.

Education & Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Provide education on the treatment process and all available Spark services.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., Market Access, Account Executives) and external stakeholders (e.g., TCs, physicians) to resolve patient access barriers.

Evrysdi Responsibilities (50%)

Patient Education & Support:

  • Provide on-label education to patients, caregivers, and the community on Evrysdi, including its clinical profile, dosing, and administration.
  • Proactively communicate Genentech-specific reimbursement programs, policies, and resources.

Patient Access and Reimbursement:

  • Maintain regular contact with patients to identify and resolve on-label insurance, pharmacy, and other reimbursement challenges.
  • Provide expert, patient-specific reimbursement navigation and empower customers to resolve access issues.
  • Educate customers and partners on national, regional, and local payer coverage policies.

Advocacy and Community Engagement:

  • Engage with and support local advocacy chapters through programming, events, and sponsorships.
  • Establish Genentech as a trusted partner in the neurology rare disease community.

General Responsibilities (Applicable to both roles)

  • Compliance: Adhere strictly to all laws, company policies (including the Luxturna and NRD Business Guidance), HIPAA guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaboration: Partner effectively with internal field-facing roles, home office teams, and external stakeholders.
  • Administrative Excellence: Track all patient interactions using approved tools, attend all team meetings, and meet all administrative expectations.
  • Professional Development: Obtain and maintain full proficiency in disease state and product knowledge for both therapeutic areas.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • An RN, related clinical experience, or case management experience is strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of field experience in patient services, reimbursement, or pharmaceuticals.
  • Direct experience supporting patients is required, with a proven ability to connect empathetically with individuals and families facing difficult diagnoses.
