Job Summary

The Academy Coach plays a key role in the short- and long-term development of youth soccer players within the LA Galaxy Academy and beyond. While understanding the LA Galaxy philosophy, style of play, and club values, the Academy Coach will serve as a head coach for an LA Galaxy Academy team and, potentially, an Assistant Coach for other LA Galaxy Academy teams. The Academy Coach shall have a proven track record in identifying and developing youth soccer players.

The Academy Coach will report directly to the Director, Academy Operations and will work closely with other Academy Coaches, Team Administrator, Academy Training, Medical and Equipment staff and Director of Education and Sr. Director of Soccer Operations to develop and execute on key initiatives related to the Essential Functions. This position will undertake additional responsibilities as requested by Director, Development and Methodology to ensure LA Galaxy Academy are achieving success on and off of the field.

Essential Functions:



  • On-Field Responsibilities. Academy Coach will serve as the Head Coach for an LA Galaxy Academy team and will serve as Assistant Coach on other LA Galaxy Academy teams, as directed. It is the responsibility of the Academy Coach to conduct daily training sessions with the team, to coach all team matches, scout potential players and to assist with club try-outs. It is expected that the Academy Coach will follow the club's player development, training philosophy, curriculum and playing style of the LA Galaxy and as directed by the Director, Development and Methodology. Further, the Academy Coach will create individualized training programs for each player that identifies each player's needs to progress within the Academy.
  • Off-Field Technical Responsibilities. The Academy Coach will have off-field technical responsibilities. These responsibilities shall include: submitting training sessions to all Academy staff, planning weekly, monthly and yearly technical plans, inputting training sessions into SoccerLab or other platform, attending mandatory weekly video sessions, completing all match-specific information, submitting weekly training evaluations, conducting player-related meetings and interacting with player's parents.
  • Off-Field Administrative Responsibilities. An important function of the Academy Coach is to manage off-field administrative functions for the team. These functions include, but are not limited to, overseeing players on away trips, determining/emailing match roster for matches in a timely manner and creating/providing daily itinerary for away trips. It is also critical that the Academy Coach holds players accountable for the Academy Standards set by the Director of Education.
  • Coaching-Specific Responsibilities. It is expected that the Academy Coach will uphold the standards and policies set by the LA Galaxy and the LA Galaxy Academy. These standards include, but are not limited to, upholding the mission, vision and core values of the club, ability to work as a team and individually, communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, act as a role model to colleagues and players and encourage individual player development within team process.


Required Qualifications:



  • A minimum education level: BA/BS Degree (4-year)
  • A minimum of 5+ years of related work experience
  • Extensive knowledge and proven track record in youth and amateur soccer
  • Network of local contacts in the soccer community
  • Ability to speak multiple languages a plus
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
  • Ability to act as a change agent and challenge the status quo
  • Foster a continuous improvement mindset
  • Team player who enjoys fast paced and innovative environment
  • Self-motivated with a positive attitude
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)



Payscale: $70,000- $87,500

Bonus: This position is not eligible for a bonus under the current bonus plan requirements.
