How you make a difference in this role:

The Department of Human Resources is seeking to fill an Assistant Counsel position. The Assistant Counsel classification is a non-supervisory/management role. This is an exciting opportunity for an attorney looking to join a mission driven team focused on delivering quality work in accordance with the highest ethical standards while enjoying a work-life balance. Job Overview:

Under general direction, provides information, data, legal advice, and support for the general counsel and other program areas. Performs work of beginner difficulty. This class is the entry-level classification for the attorney series. Key competencies for this role include:

Key Responsibilities:

In this role you will:

  • Participate in intake and complete of intake interviews for workplace complaints involving workplace discrimination and harassment, abusive conduct in the workplace/workplace bullying, violence in the workplace, retaliation, and related workplace policies.
  • Gather and review relevant information and documentation and conduct analysis based on workplace policies and procedures and prepare written communications and memorandums related to workplace investigations.
  • Provide employment law-related support and guidance to DOHR and other state agencies and entities.

Minimum Qualifications:

The candidate must possess: (1) a Juris Doctor degree and (2) a valid Tennessee law license.
