What you'll do:

The Tax Manager will be a key member of the tax team reporting to and working directly with the Tax Senior Manager primarily responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining and overseeing the Company's tax information reporting, regulatory reporting, planning, research and specialty projects at our headquarters located in Phoenix, AZ. This role involves close collaboration with departments across the organization and external advisors to ensure compliance with all applicable reporting requirements and ensure efficient tax processes are maintained.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience with tax information reporting, tax regulatory rules, passthrough investments, research tools, forecasting, payroll and other indirect taxes. This position will play a key role in supporting/managing other departments with related compliance and reporting matters. This position will also support other direct tax initiatives as needed, in particular, tax planning and other internal departmental initiatives. We are seeking a knowledgeable and proactive professional who can serve as a trusted partner to internal teams and contribute meaningfully to the Company's overall tax strategy and compliance.
  • Establish relationships with other departments to ensure they understand information reporting obligations.
  • Develop and maintain a tax information reporting process for the Company, ensuring all filings are completed and retained appropriately.
  • Conduct tax research in response to requests from business units regarding information reporting, payroll taxes and other indirect taxes.
  • Assist with audits, examinations and inquiries by various taxing authorities and jurisdictions, including required internal and external coordination.
  • Create, maintain and enhance the tax department's documentation and processes, including the level of automation for the informational reporting filings.
  • Assist with informational reporting and withholding due diligence for new products and services.
  • Actively participate in the building of a professional, proactive, responsive and technically strong tax organization.
  • Establish effective working relationships for the tax organization across Company functions and business units.

What you'll need:

  • 6+ years of related experience in Tax, Accounting, Finance (GL Mgmt., Public Reporting, Analysis) or similar field.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required; Masters or MBA in related field preferred.
  • Previous leadership experience preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of general banking operations, including deposit operations, loan administration, treasury management and/or other commercial banking products and services.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of U.S. federal, state and local taxes; accounting for income taxes; controls and processes; tax compliance systems focused on automation.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of tax research (ex. BNA, Checkpoint) and large corporate tax provision and compliance software (Corptax).
  • Advanced speaking and writing communication skills.
  • Certified Public Accountant required.
