TITLE: Senior Manager, Subspecialty Initiatives REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Director, Subspecialty Initiatives BASIC FUNCTIONS: Manage the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs and projects for assigned American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) subspecialty sections, including overseeing the facilitation of policy development and administration and development of professional resources, education and member affinity programs; serving as a liaison with partner organizations; and implementation of grants and subcontract agreements. Lead initiatives related to the pediatric hospital medicine subspecialty and pediatric hospitalist profession and support other AAP initiatives and child health priorities that align with or draw from assigned constituent disciplines. Pursue opportunities to support section initiatives to advance/augment subspecialty care and optimal delivery of child health services. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Serve as primary staff for the Section on Hospital Medicine and support the work of pediatric hospitalists in university-based and community settings. 2. Provide staffing support for other assigned committees, councils, sections, work groups, as assigned, including agenda development, meeting planning and attendance, preparation and dissemination of minutes, and administrative follow up. Utilize virtual technology to support constituent activities as appropriate. 3. Facilitate, implement, and manage the initiatives value-add projects (e.g., grants, scholarships) for assigned committees, councils, and sections. 4. Facilitate the development and management of AAP policy as it pertains to assigned committees and sections. For these disciplines, serve as the internal AAP technical consultant in matters associated with policy interpretation or related program/project management. 5. Manage editing, proofing, reference verification of policy manuscripts, manuals, educational products, promotional materials, and other documents. Review content of in-progress publications for consistency with existing AAP policy. Secure/negotiate copyright releases and/or reprint permissions for tables and other materials as needed. 6. Manage all essential business processes including policy development, elections, bylaws, core/non-core budgets, strategic planning and peer review. Develop internal memoranda, policy documents, and program proposals in accordance with established protocol and formats (SBAR, policy templates, continuing medical education (CME) program proposals). 7. Coordinate activities of assigned groups with stakeholders, including other AAP entities, medical societies, and external partner organizations. Where appropriate, develop and implement Memoranda of Understanding delineating program goals and roles. 8. Respond to telephone and written inquiries from AAP members, other physicians, allied health professionals, educators, federal and state officials, attorneys, public relations firms, and others on matters pertinent to AAP policy and/or project activities. 9. Lead discussions and projects with committee, council, and section members and relevant external partners related to pediatric hospital medicine subspecialty and the pediatric hospitalist profession. 10. Collectively work with AAP advocacy staff on legislative and/or regulatory matters pertinent to AAP policy, including reviewing Federal Register notices related to proposed rule making and/or exploring the significance of AAP representation at federally sponsored hearings and meetings. 11. Develop and manage assigned operating budgets, grants, and/or endorsements. 12. Prepare activity reports, including information for internal and external publications, newsletters, and status reports. Prepare annual reports for assigned committee, councils, and sections. 13. Organize, implement, and facilitate the activities of council and section CME courses as required, including the AAP National Conference & Exhibition education programs. 14. Attend the AAP Leadership Conference and provide background and follow up information response to forum resolutions as necessary. 15. Perform all other duties as assigned. EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in public health, health care administration, allied health sciences; or related discipline required, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience. Master's degree in related discipline preferred. EXPERIENCE: At least five years' related experience in public health administration required, including child health, needs assessment, evaluation, technical writing, and budget management. Medical association, educational program development, and grants management experience highly desirable. Experience working with pediatric hospitalists or hospital-based subspecialists or working in an inpatient setting a plus. ESSENTIAL SKILLS: Excellent organizational, verbal/written communication, organizational, critical thinking, diplomacy, leadership, and interpersonal skills required. Must be able to review and synthesize published articles, data, and other materials to inform policy and project management; manage multiple priorities simultaneously; take initiative; work both independently and as part of a team; effectively collaborate with various internal and external constituents, maintain a positive and cooperative team-oriented work environment with a commitment to fostering a culture where everyone feels valued and respected. Strong technical acumen with proficiency in MS Office and the ability to learn and apply new technologies; experience with virtual meeting platforms (e.g., WebEx, Teams) and document collaboration platforms (e.g., SharePoint) preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology, health care industry, medical education, and programs/projects designed to promote child health highly desirable. Some travel and weekend work may be required, along with the need for flexibility in arranging work schedule to accommodate physicians' availability. A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range for this position is $107,395.12 - $113,361.56. Compensation decisions take into account a wide range of factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, skills, certifications, geographic location, business needs, and organizational policies.
