Under the direct supervision in a clinical admixture room, this role is responsible for performing the technical, non-judgmental tasks related to medication preparation, distribution, recordkeeping, and inventory management. All tasks are subject to sequential or final verification by a registered nurse or pharmacist.

This position supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. Please note that state regulations may require certain compounding or mixing duties to be performed only by licensed individuals. As such, some team members may be restricted from performing these specific tasks.

  • Prepare and compound medications under physician supervision, following all safety and compliance guidelines.
  • Verify patient and prescription information, ensuring completeness and proper authorization.
  • Confirm insurance approvals prior to medication preparation.
  • Accurately calculate dosages and convert between measurement systems.
  • Maintain inventory, including receiving, shelving, and logging medications.
  • Monitor and document controlled substances and temperature logs.
  • Dispose of hazardous materials safely and maintain cleanliness of the admixture area.
  • Assist with billing, labeling, and data entry into pharmacy systems.
  • Support quality assurance activities and maintain up-to-date drug information and MSDS sheets.

Note: State regulations may limit compounding responsibilities to licensed individuals. Tasks will be assigned accordingly.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3-5 years of pharmacy experience, including IV preparation.
  • IV certification preferred.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) or state-specific licensure recommended.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements:

  • Exposure to patients and potentially hazardous substances in a clinical setting.
  • Adherence to OSHA and safety protocols is essential.
