Maxar is currently seeking an experienced leader forthe Accuracy Engineeringteam based in Westminster, CO. This role can also be performed remotely. Thisis an accuracy and interoperability engineeringteamresponsible for the successful execution ofscaling thedevelopment of tools and servicestosupport image accuracy improvement, image interoperability (co-alignment), and artifacts that support consistent image formation. These tools, techniques and services maintain Maxar's superiority in satellite image quality.

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the nexus of cutting edge geospatial and photogrammetric technologies and software engineering on AWS cloud platforms. Our focus is on building foundational imagery formation tools so that we can provide the most utility with Maxar's satellite imagery as well as others. We are service owners of technologies that co-align imagery to different reference datums. Your Project: The Software Engineering Manager is an experienced leader who can advocate for the team, customer and business. In this role, you will be responsible for managing our agile software engineering teams as well as team members that are subject matter experts in geospatial and photogrammetric disciplines. What you'll do day-to-day (with your colleagues):

  • Manage the high-level allocation of resources to new feature development, balancing that against the paying down historical technical debt. Knowledge to make these decisions is gained by participating in daily operational standups to review system issues, on-going discussions with architects, etc.
  • Risk mitigation within team via knowledge and task cross training, etc.
  • Participate in staff recruitment, performance assessment, salary, training, career development and recognition/disciplinary actions.
  • Coordinate vendor contracts, deliveries, and schedule with affected company parties.
  • Continue refinement of the software development methodologies and tools by the organization.
  • Work with the team to ensure the stories and tasks are aligned with the features we are trying to build
  • Work with our product team to understand product requirements
  • Groom backlog
  • Monitor AWS costs and system health
  • Facilitate and participate in design, requirement, and systems documentation
  • Immerse yourself in the tools and systems built by your teams

Minimum requirements for this position:

  • Must be a US citizen and be willing and able to obtain a Secret security clearance or higher
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline (Computer Science preferably). 4 years of additional experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in leading teams and people management
  • Familiarity programming or leading geospatial teams.
  • Familiarity with a range of software development methodologies (i.e. waterfall, iterative, agile, scrum).
  • Strong management, analytical, and written/oral communication skills.

These skills would be amazing:

  • 5 years of software engineering management experience, preferably in organizations using agile team-based practices.
  • Strong sense of self-motivation is essential - must be willing to be actively involved in the details of the system design and operability
  • Successful at multi-tasking and able to simultaneously handle multiple priorities
  • Able to identify and resolve project issues independently
  • Has strong teamwork and collaborative skills
  • Program and project management experience.
  • Knowledge of micro service based large-scale systems.
  • Working knowledge of AWS or comparable cloud technologies
  • C++ or Python programing expertise
  • Geodesic and/or photogrammetric expertise

The successful candidate's starting pay will fall within the salary range provided below and is determined based on job-related factors, including, but not limited to, the experience, qualifications, knowledge, skills, geographic work location, and market conditions. Candidates with the minimum necessary experience, qualifications, knowledge, and skillsets for the position should not expect to receive the upper end of the pay range.

* The base pay for this position within Colorado is: $120,000.00 - $200,000.00 annually.

For all other states, we use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop market-driven ranges for our roles, and as such, each location where we hire may have a different range.
