Job Summary

Performs inspections, testing, repairs, and planned maintenance of advanced and complex Heavy Commercial Centrifugal & Chiller systems.

Essential Duties

  • Conducts comprehensive diagnostics on HVAC systems, including split systems, mini split systems, VRV heat pumps, RTUs, WSHPs, CRAC units, chillers, AHUs, and pumps, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Manages workflow and coordination for large-scale projects.
  • Conducts disassembly and reassembly of commercial and residential equipment for troubleshooting and planned maintenance in alignment with service agreements.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in operating hand tools, power tools, gauges, and measuring equipment.
  • Successfully fulfills service contracts, quoted projects, and demand service calls according to directives.
  • Establishes enduring customer relationships and ensures clear communication of work performed to achieve customer satisfaction.
  • Effectively communicates project status and maintains documentation for all project stakeholders.
  • Acts as a leader and primary technical support resource for service technicians.
  • Manages subcontractor activities, conducts training, and offers guidance to technicians.
  • Procures materials and generates purchase order numbers for suppliers.
  • Operates motor vehicles and trailers safely, adhering to company driving policies and safety regulations.
  • Manages equipment, tools, and inventory on the service vehicle to ensure operational readiness.

Minimum Requirements

  • Requires a minimum of 5+ years of experience in HVAC Service.
  • Requires a High School Diploma or GED. A two-year technical degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Must possess required registrations, professional licenses and/or certifications as required by the position.
  • Advanced knowledge of service processes, techniques and codes is required.
  • Familiarity with brand-specific controls such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, and Distec.
  • Skilled in interpreting complex schematics and prints.
  • Capable of working independently and self-managing tasks effectively.
  • Demonstrates a professional demeanor, strong interpersonal skills, and effective written and oral communication abilities.
  • Required:
    • HVAC Unitary skills: split system - all brands up to 120 tons, mini-split system - up to 3 tons heat pump and all brands Multi-Zone, VRV Heat Pump and VRV Heat Recovery, roof top units - all brands up to 150+ tons, water source heat pumps - all brands up to 120 tons, self-contained systems - water-cooled and air cooled with remote condenser and CRAC units - Leibert/data-aire/Stultz.
    • HVAC Chiller skills: Air-cooled chillers - Scroll/reciprocating, Screw, Screw with VFD and Magnetic. Water Cooled Chiller - Scroll/reciprocating, Screw, Variable Speed Screw and Magnetic. Centrifugal Chiller Theory.
    • Airside skills: Fan Powered Box, VAV Box, VFD Theory. Air Handler: Theory of AHU operation and Theory of control valve operation. Exhaust fans: Centrifugal Up blast Roof Fans, Centrifugal Inline Fan and Vane Axial High Pressure Fans.
    • Pumps and Piping Systems skills: Pumps -- ability to identify all components, pump configurations and chiller configurations. Flow Control - automatic/circuit setter. Piping - strainers and back-flow devices.
