Job Summary

The Assistant Coach will be responsible for assisting the head coach in directing the softball program in all aspects. This individual will provide on-field coaching of the softball program, recruiting of potential student-athletes, alumni and community outreach, and monitor the academic and student-welfare for the program. Specific responsibilities to be assigned under the direction of the Head Softball Coach.

Essential Functions



  • Assist the Head Coach in directing an effective varsity athletic program in all aspects.
  • Assist in the teaching, coaching, training, and motivating program's student-athlete to perform at the highest level through organized and individual team sessions.
  • Help foster an environment within the program that supports the department's mission of personal growth and integrity, diversity, leadership, sportsmanship, respect, and a commitment to academic and athletic excellence.
  • Responsible for knowing and abiding by NCAA, CAA and University rules and regulations.
  • Coach specific positions as directed by Head Coach.
  • Assist with breaking down game film and scouting opponents.
  • Assist with compliance rules and complete weekly participation and practice reports.
  • Continue established efforts and create new initiatives as dictated by program in regard to outreach and fundraising events.

    • Assist with Fundraising and Development; assist with phone-a-thon, distributing related correspondence
    • Coordinate alumni events
    • Assist with social media for program


  • Assist with recruiting of potential student-athletes by organizing official visits and participating in unofficial ones.
  • Responsible for team travel, including itineraries, meals, travel practices, transportation and accommodation.
  • Assist with the organization and publicizing of camps and clinics.


Required Qualifications



  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree or the equivalent combination of education and work experience. (Please review the Equivalency Chart for additional information.)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Valid Driver's License.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Collegiate playing experience.

  • Typically standing, walking
  • Typically bending, crouching, stooping
  • Typically running, climbing
  • Lifting demands 50lbs

This position is classified as Exempt. Compensation for this grade ranges can vary based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
