DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Drafter Designer (DD) plays a crucial role in executing a range of technical responsibilities that support civil, mining, and environmental engineering initiatives within the Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation of the Department of Environmental Protection. This position focuses on projects related to abandoned mine land)reclamation and the remediation of abandoned mine drainage (AMD). The scope of work encompasses various activities, including the reclamation of surface mines, control measures for mine fires and subsidence, the closure of mine openings, and the extension or replacement of water supply lines. Additionally, the DD is involved in the evaluation, operation, monitoring, maintenance, and rehabilitation of both active and passive AMD treatment facilities. To effectively carry out these tasks, you must interpret and apply relevant guidance, standards, procedures, and regulations, exercising sound judgment to make necessary minor adaptations and modifications as situations arise.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch (12:00 PM to 1:00 PM).
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $51,971.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as a Drafter (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of experience as an Environmental Engineering Technician, which includes a minimum of one year of engineering, architectural or survey drafting work, including or supplemented by six months of CADD experience or training; or
  • Two years of experience in engineering, architectural or survey drafting work, including or supplemented by six months of CADD experience or training, and an Associate's Degree in the field of engineering technology or Computer Aided Drafting and Design; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and/or training, including or supplemented by six months of CADD experience or training.
