Job Summary:



The Department of Pathology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE) Anatomic Pathology (AP) Laboratories Operations Director at the faculty rank of Senior Instructor.

The AP Laboratories Operations Director will provide leadership to, and management of, the different laboratories working both collaboratively and creatively with staff and administrative leadership to address complex technical, facility, and HR related issues to improve processes and integrate services within the AP laboratories and other hospital departments. This includes development of workflows, policies and procedures, the approach to deployment of information technology, and cross entity coordination for enterprise-wide solutions. The AP Laboratories Operations Director ensures quality and timely pre-intra and post-analytical processes and procedures to guarantee that specimen handling, slide preparation, and pathology reporting are accurate and compliant.

Key Responsibilities:

Operations (25%)



  • Plan, coordinate, and administer the activities of the gross laboratory, histology, laboratory, cytopathology laboratory, and morgue.
  • Serve as key interface between the anatomic pathology laboratories, other departmental laboratories/divisions, and UC Health services, clinics, and operating rooms.
  • Meet with and prepare reports for the laboratory medical director and other departmental leaders, such as workload statistics, errors/deviations, and quality metrics.
  • Supervision over laboratory supervisors, Histology, Cytology and support staff and collaboration with pathology assistant.
  • Plan, supervise, and assign work to staff, evaluate performance, and conduct training.
  • Provide an oversight of equipment and facilities in the anatomic laboratories and associated clinical spaces.
  • Provide vacation relief coverage to cytology supervisor and cytology business support professional.
  • Maintains cytology certification; participates in the annual Proficiency Testing.


Planning (20%)



  • Implement department strategic goals approved by Department Chair, Vice Chair of Anatomic Pathology, and Administration.
  • Engage with department leaders and faculty to effect short term and long-term goals and strategic visions.
  • Monitor quality assurance metrics and develop quality improvement programs.
  • Assist with benchmarking with central Administration; spend one day/week in administration to learn systems.


Financial Management (25%)



  • Perform cost studies as needed for contracts, negotiations, and compliance.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor flow of funds for anatomic pathology laboratories, for review by Administrator, Clinical Leaders, and Chair.
  • Supervise lab managers, and provide HR counseling, disciplinary action (s), and mentoring.


Policy Coordination (25%)



  • Ensure laboratory and provider compliance with regulatory and licensing agencies.
  • Execute policy review, development, implementation, and auditing to ensure regulatory compliance and quality assurance, including compliance with CAP.
  • Laboratory Accreditation Program and proficiency testing assays.


Education Participation (5%)



  • Participate in education and orientation of pathology residents, fellows and medical students in laboratory management and regulatory compliance.

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.



  • Master's degree in business administration, health administration, public health, or a related field from an accredited institution
  • A minimum of five (5) years in a clinical laboratory setting
  • A minimum of three (3) years of supervisory and/or managerial experience

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$120,000 to $130,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
