About This Role

Provides technical support for inspections, design, analysis, and testing of vehicles, machinery, consumer products, and equipment. Assists with scene surveys, 3D scanning and printing, inspections, and creating maps and layout drawings. Applies scientific and engineering principles to various projects.

Responsible for supporting and conducting investigations of railroad accidents or incidents, preparing technical reports, and potentially serving as an expert witness. Performs field inspections of mechanical systems and components, and helps plan, manage, and coordinate project activities to meet objectives within deadlines and budgets, often working with other consultants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and reviews project proposals or plans to determine timelines, resource needs, and procedures for project tasks.
  • Works collaboratively with the project team to coordinate work plans and responsibilities.
  • Supports project activities by coordinating tasks and tracking progress.
  • Participates in field inspections of mechanical systems and components, as well as railroad and other rail entities.
  • Drafts technical and project-related reports for clients.
  • Attends meetings with clients and project personnel to contribute ideas and participate in technical problem-solving.
  • Prepares and delivers client presentations and technical conference materials.
  • Identifies business opportunities related to rail safety, security, and risk management.
  • May assist with expert witness testimony and provide support as needed.

Experience Preferred

  • Experience in mechanical engineering, consulting and design projects
  • Experience in failure analysis or technical report preparation
  • Experience in providing technical advice and consulting services to clients.
  • Machine shop, machine tools, woodworking tools. Demonstrated familiarity with mechanical systems. Data acquisition and instrumentation.

Skills Required:

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong Mechanical Aptitude
  • Demonstrated proficiency in technical presentation and writing of technical reports
  • Proficient with office productivity software on multiple OS platforms
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Willingness to work in a team environment

Education Required:

  • BS in, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanics/Engineering Mechanics, Materials/Metallurgy, etc. from an ABET accredited engineering school.
  • Advanced engineering degree a plus
  • F.E./EIT status or plan to obtain F.E/EIT and capable of working towards P.E. license (preferred)

Computer Skills:

  • Intermediate/advanced skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Internet software skills.
  • Solidworks or CAD design software experience
  • MATLAB
