What Your Job Will Be Like:

Are you a creative professional passionate about transforming complex information into compelling visual communications? Do you thrive in a collaborative environment where creativity meets purpose? If so, Organization 00157, Creative Services, is currently seeking an experienced Creative Designer to join their team of storytellers who bring Sandia's groundbreaking work to life through innovative multimedia messaging.

In this role, one will collaborate with teams across Sandia to create high-impact visual communications that advance Sandia's national security mission. One will work on everything from executive-level presentations and strategic campaigns to illustrations and data visualizations that make complex scientific concepts accessible to different audiences.

On any given day, you may be called upon to:



  • Contribute to communications that enhance Sandia's reputation, support critical mission objectives, and maintain professional standards expected of a premier national laboratory

  • Develop concepts and design high-quality visual communication products, including 2D and 3D illustrations, infographics, and data visualizations.

  • Create branded materials and templates while championing Sandia's brand guidelines to ensure consistency across all communications

  • Lead creative development for communication campaigns aligned with organizational objectives

  • Transform complex technical information into accessible, engaging visual formats

  • Collaborate with partners across the Labs to understand challenges and craft strategic visual solutions

  • Support Executive Office communications and mission-critical projects

  • Partner with communications specialists on Labs-wide campaigns and high-impact initiatives

  • Manage projects involving unclassified controlled information (UCI) and classified materials

  • Contribute to continuous innovation in visual storytelling methods and technologies

    The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.



Salary Range:

$62,400 - $120,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:



  • A Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Advertising, or a relevant field, plus 5 years related experience; or equivalent experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, etc.)

  • The ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance

    Qualified applicants may be asked to provide a portfolio of work if selected for further consideration.



Qualifications We Desire:



  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (e.g., Word, PowerPoint etc.)

  • Advanced skills in multimedia design, data visualization, and 2D/3D illustration

  • Knowledge of publication policies, practices, and copyright laws

  • Experience working in an internal creative team or agency environment

  • Strong conceptualization skills and the ability to develop innovative visual solutions

  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with experience building effective working relationships across management levels

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail

  • The ability to work effectively under pressure with shifting priorities in deadline-sensitive environments

  • A passion for supporting Sandia's national security mission with curiosity about science and technology

  • The ability to model behaviors that reflect Sandia's core values



About Our Team:

Creative Services is one of four departments within Sandia's Communications Group, supporting a $4 billion national security laboratory with approximately 16,800 employees. Our talented team of designers, video producers, photographers, and event specialists tell Sandia's story through visual communications. We are the corporate resource responsible for developing and supporting Sandia's brand image through professional, cohesive creative work.

Posting Duration:

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Position Information:

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
