Overview: The position will be responsible for supporting federal Research and Development (R&D) Hydropower programs within the U.S. Department of Energy's Water Power Technologies Office (WPTO). The U.S. Department of Energy's Water Power Technologies Office enables research, development, and testing of emerging technologies to advance marine energy as well as next generation hydropower and pumped storage systems for a flexible, reliable grid. The Hydropower Program within WPTO conducts early-stage R&D and applied science to advance transformative, cost-effective, reliable, and environmentally sustainable hydropower and pumped storage technologies with the goal to better understand and capitalize upon opportunities for these technologies to support the nation's rapidly evolving grid and improve energy-water infrastructure and security. Working in an integrated team environment of scientists, engineers, and policy experts and supporting the federal client, the candidate will help with technical and project management. The candidate will focus on WPTO's fleet modernization, maintenance and cybersecurity initiative within the Hydropower Program. They may contribute to the development of new research initiatives to advance the state-of-the-arts and serve as a technology expert to evaluate technology area portfolios, conduct gap analysis, and develop strategic roadmaps. They may contribute to the planning of new funding opportunities including program concepts, requirement documents, workshops, merit reviews, briefings, and award negotiations. The candidate may also assist in the technology management for a portfolio of R&D projects. A successful candidate will have a background in the design, analysis, operation, or maintenance of hydropower dams to address challenges in meeting future demands and requirements with a deep understanding of the complexities involved. Previous experience working with regulatory authorities, governing utilities, independent system operators, national laboratories, or owners is desirable. Responsibilities:
