GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Environmental Services Instructor serves as a part of the patient care and support team with primary responsibility for training/retraining/cross training/reviewing Environmental Services employees in accordance with Department/Medical Center policies, procedures and infection control guidelines. The instructor assesses employee competencies and assists staff in maintaining and improving skill and knowledge competencies.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values. 1. *Develops and updates training programs per departmental and organizational policies.

2. *Trains, retrains, cross trains and reviews employees as assigned; assists with orientation of employees to department/area as assigned.

3. *Assesses employee competencies, identifies work performance knowledge or skill deficiencies and tutors employees regarding improvement.

4. Gives clear instructions and communicates necessary information to employees and supervisors.

5. Routinely provides and documents positive reinforcement; encourages, redirects, corrects and documents employee performance as appropriate.

6. *Accepts assignment based on census, departmental staffing levels and training needs of self and other staff members; exhibits high work standards for quality and productivity.

7. Advances work knowledge by participating in continuing education inservices and seeking ongoing development opportunities.

8. Follows infection control and safety guidelines.

9. Explains, promotes, and follows departmental and Medical Center policies.

10. *Uses keys, telephones and beepers responsibly and secures locked areas.

11. *Utilizes computer to complete required job training and personnel-related activities as needed.

12. Supports and is involved in the medical center's Journey to Excellence initiatives.

13. Maintains confidentiality in matters relating to patients, family, coworkers and the Medical Center.

14. Attends and participates in department meetings as scheduled and shares relevant information and suggestions.

15. *Records daily training, unusual occurrences and emergency cleaning situations; accesses medication rooms without supervision to perform necessary cleaning; completes work orders as needed.

16. Maintains log of training provided; maintains file of department training materials.

17. Routinely monitors appearance of Medical Center and reports housekeeping or maintenance needs.

18. Operates/demonstrates, cleans, and stores equipment properly.

19. *Wears appropriate protective equipment for products and equipment being used and work assignment being completed.

20. Assists in maintaining Medical Center security; recognizes and responds to emergency situations per facility policy.

21. Enters restricted access areas, without supervision, to perform assigned work.

22. Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of the principles and application of infection control and healthcare housekeeping procedures.

2. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

3. Ability to continually organize and prioritize work to meet productivity expectations.

4. Ability to adjust and adapt training instruction to meet the needs of individual employees.

5. Ability to effectively work with frequent interruptions, environmental change and emergency situations.

6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel, medical staff, volunteer and ancillary departments including diverse patient populations.

7. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

8. Ability to utilize computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to job training and personnel-related access/activities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalency required. Some post-secondary education preferred. Prior experience in training or evaluating others work desired.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

(Physical Requirements are based on federal criteria and assigned by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.)

(DOT) - Characterized as medium work requiring exertion of 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Ability to push/pull trash, linen and equipment up to 700 pounds.

Ability to walk/stand entire shift while pushing/pulling equipment.

Ability to work using ladders and step stools.
