Buyer is responsible for management of several category groups for production (direct) material and project procurement from both domestic and international sources as well as performance of related suppliers. Buyer will also be responsible for quoting and material setups for New Product Introduction (NPI) activities.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for procurement, projects, and maintenance of assigned commodity groups Implementation of commodity group strategies in coordination with regional or global commodity buyer as well as local multi-functional teams
  • Acts as the local point of contact for internal disposition (MRP, IE, operational buyers, etc) and quality assurance as well as suppliers in day-to-day business
  • Coordinates value stream activities with local business partners (e.g., optimization of value stream cost, lead times, logistics and packaging), incl. cost engineering activities for series parts
  • Conducts local cost reduction activities for series parts in collaboration with cost engineering Manage new supplier qualification in coordination with quality management and requesting department
  • Manages local supply shortages and risks for strategic suppliers and escalates to local management levels if needed
  • Executes RFQs for individual parts or parts which are not included in global or regional commodity group strategy
  • Responsible for the preparation of data and analysis of relevant projects for regional or global commodity buyer
  • Support preparation of negotiations with suppliers in close alignment with regional / global commodity managers
  • Executes measures defined in commodity group strategy and ensures their implementation
  • Supplier development (Q-meetings, audits, etc.) and performance tracking within commodity groups

Experience

One to three years' previous experience in purchasing, supply chain, procurement or project management in an industrial environment. Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills, ability to work under pressure, strong analytical and conceptual skills, and high self-confidence are a must. Must be organized, flexible, must take initiative and have the ability to work independently as well as on a team. Experience with material management, inventory control, SAP, working with lean manufacturing initiatives, and understanding of cost breakdowns is strongly preferred. Strong working knowledge of MS Office programs including PowerPoint, Word and Excel is required.

Education

Bachelor or Associate degree in engineering and/or business or related field, or suitable combination of education and work experience required. MBA or CSCP/CPIM, CPSM, or SCPro certifications preferred.
