Job Summary:

Perform quality conformance tests on rubber with accordance to ASTM method. Perform and prepare material test reports and maintain material test database. Ability to decipher test results and report any non-conformances to Chemist.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Rheometer testing for rubber cure characteristics.
  • Tensometer testing for rubber mechanical properties.
  • Durometer testing for rubber hardness.
  • Test rubber for specific gravity.
  • Daily compression set testing, rubber adhesion testing.
  • Rust identification and related testing due to bond.
  • PPAP and Yearly Audit on material milling. Molding oven heat aging, oil aging, comp set, gravity test, duro test, tensometer, physical test.
  • Prepare test samples using rubber lab mill, lab molding press, test fixtures and test fluids.
  • Test materials per ASTM or customer specifications.
  • Test rubber compounds in various environments e.g. air, oil, coolant, water
  • Create and maintain material report results in data files.
  • Decipher test results and report any non-conformances to Chemist.
  • Follows the Quality Management System requirements as outlined in the applicable QMS procedures and work instructions; and suggests ways for continual improvement.
  • Follows EHS rules and regulations and suggests ways for continual improvement.
  • Promptly reports quality problems, personal injuries and unsafe conditions.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area.



Competencies Required:



  • Knowledge of rubber manufacturing and rubber material.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as test results, blueprints, safety rules, and operating and maintenance instructions.
  • Ability to write routine reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of customers or employees.
  • Analytical abilities necessary to plan and prioritize own work, complete work on schedule and maintain required records and logs.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to exchange information with variety of staff.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements, such as OSHA standards, and quality systems policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Proven ability to learn new concepts, processes, etc. quickly and utilize them within a team.
  • Basic math/science skills including knowledge of engineering units.
  • Ability to use common measuring tools and lab instruments such as: micrometer, caliper, snap gage, pyrometer, weigh scale and microscope.
  • Demonstrated skills in the operation of various computer programs such as Oracle, Excel, Word and Access.
  • Proven ability to run the following testing machines - Rheometer, Tensometer, Durometer, Brabender, FTIR and Densitech.



Physical Demand:



  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to forty pounds daily.
  • Ability to walk and move about, stoop and bend.
  • Ability to stand for up to an eight-hour shift.
  • Ability to closely examine parts and images.



Work Environment:



  • Works in areas that can be uncomfortable due to noise, odors, and temperature extremes.



Compensation:

The base pay for this position generally ranges between $60,000.00 to $74,000.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package. Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
