Job Summary:

The Bindery - Lead is responsible for operating and maintaining machines in a safe and efficient manner, while leading a crew, owning machine maintenance needs, and acting as a stand-in shift supervisor when necessary. They strive to meet or exceed company performance goals and customer satisfaction levels, while prioritizing safety and adhering to company policies and procedures.

Essential Functions:



  • Properly set up and operate machines, such as Perfect Binder and Saddle Stitcher, safely and efficiently daily.
  • Oversee all maintenance and maintenance needs on Lead's specific machine, in a proactive manner.
  • Provide technical support during shift for other machines, ensuring overall shift success.
  • Act as a stand-in shift supervisor when supervisor is not present, handling employee needs, conflict, and questions.
  • Read and understand special instructions on job tickets and ship reports to accurately process customer orders.
  • Read, follow, and interpret work instructions, job tickets, and ship reports accurately.
  • Lead, train, and coach crew members to maximize efficiency.
  • Verify and guide temporary employees in performing tasks.
  • Meet or exceed waste and throughput standards set by the company.
  • Effectively troubleshoot mechanical and operational problems on equipment.
  • Perform other assigned duties.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow work instructions, job tickets, safety rules, and ship reports accurately.
  • Ability to effectively communicate various ideas, issues, and needs in written form to various levels of organization and external customers.
  • Ability to perform advanced mathematical skills, including monetary calculations, percentages, detailed graphs, and ratios.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and employees.
  • Problem-solving skills for practical situations with limited standardization.


Working Conditions:



  • Required to sit, stand, or walk for prolonged periods of time.
  • May be required to use a keyboard and other office equipment.
  • May be required to perform concentrated work for extended periods of time.
  • May be required to perform duties beyond standard business hours.


Minimum Requirements:



  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Previous experience as a perfect binder or stitcher operator required.
  • Previous experience in troubleshooting and maintaining bindery equipment required.
  • Previous experience as a supervisor or lead preferred.
