Job Description

University of Missouri is committed to providing inclusive and accessible digital experiences for all students, faculty, staff, and community members. We are seeking a Manager of Digital Accessibility to lead and oversee institutional efforts to ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1/2.2, Section 508, and relevant laws and policies. This position plays a key strategic and operational role in advancing digital accessibility across web content, instructional technologies, software systems, and procurement processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Program Development

* Develop and lead the university's digital accessibility strategy, aligning with institutional goals, legal requirements, and best practices.

* Serve as the subject matter expert on digital accessibility and digital compliance across the institutions that comprise UM System - MU, UMKC, UMSL and S&T

* Establish or update accessibility guidelines, procedures, and benchmarks for digital content, platforms, and systems.

* Coordinate and chair cross-functional accessibility committees or working groups.

* Manage a team of digital accessibility subject matter experts.

Compliance, Risk, and Evaluation

* Ensure institutional compliance with WCAG 2.1/2.2, Section 508, ADA, and other federal/state regulations.

* Develop a sustainable IT procurement program for all campuses. Develop process and procedures. Escalation paths and document all processes.

* Oversee the evaluation of digital tools and content, including internal audits and third-party VPAT assessments.

* Develop a consistent review and assessment process for VPATs, HECVATs, and other accessibility documentation as part of the IT procurement process.

* Identify, document, and prioritize accessibility risks, and track remediation plans with responsible teams or vendors.

Collaboration & Training

* Work closely with academic technologies, web developers, application developers, procurement, disability services, legal, and communications to coordinate, collaborate and implement accessible solutions.

* Design and deliver training for faculty, staff, and vendors on creating and maintaining accessible digital content and systems.

* Act as a liaison with external vendors and partners to ensure accessibility expectations and follow-through.

Monitoring & Reporting

* Lead accessibility testing team using both manual and automated tools (e.g., axe, WAVE, NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver).

* Maintain detailed documentation of evaluations, compliance status, and progress toward institutional accessibility goals.

* Prepare reports and updates for institutional leadership, accreditation, and compliance bodies.

Shift

Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm

Hybrid or remote work flexibility based on institutional policy.

May require occasional travel or evening/weekend work for trainings or events.

Will work across multiple Campuses and report on accessibility strategy and compliance to leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Accessibility, Educational Technology, or a related field; Master's preferred.

* 5+ years of experience in digital accessibility, including at least 2 years in a leadership or coordination role.

* In-depth knowledge of WCAG 2.1/2.2, Section 508, ADA Title II/III, and other accessibility standards.

* Experience with evaluating and interpreting VPATs, HECVATs, and digital procurement processes.

* Proficiency in accessibility testing tools and assistive technologies.

* Strong project management, communication, and collaboration skills.

* Ability to lead institutional change and influence stakeholders at all levels.

Preferred Qualifications

* IAAP CPACC, WAS, or other accessibility-related certifications.

* Experience working in a higher education environment with faculty, students, and diverse administrative units.

* Familiarity with accessibility in LMS platforms (e.g., Canvas), digital documents, and multimedia.

* Knowledge of FERPA, HIPAA, and data privacy/security regulations affecting IT decisions.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $70,000 - $100,000 Commensurate with experience

Grade: GGS 12
