Position description

The Department of Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology (CCSP) at UC Santa Barbara invites applications for a Specialist with expertise in Developmental Psychology to support interdisciplinary initiatives designed to improve developmental, behavioral, and mental health equity and service delivery. This position will provide comprehensive research and evaluation support on projects focused on preparing graduate students and mental health practitioners to promote the developmental, behavioral, and mental health of youth in high-need and underserved communities.

The Specialist will collaborate with faculty, project staff, students, and community stakeholders to advance developmental and school psychology research with an emphasis on equity, early intervention, culturally responsive care, and interdisciplinary training. This is an opportunity to contribute to high-impact initiatives that are shaping the future of the behavioral health workforce in education and allied health.

Primary Responsibilities:

Support research design, data collection, and data analysis for interdisciplinary projects, including mixed-methods evaluations and longitudinal tracking of program outcomes.

Assist in the development, implementation, and refinement of tools for evaluating training effectiveness; developmental, behavioral, and mental health outcomes; and service delivery innovations.

Conduct literature reviews and contribute to scholarly dissemination activities including manuscripts, presentations, and policy briefs.

Coordinate research compliance activities, including IRB submissions and data management procedures in accordance with ethical and legal standards.

Maintain accurate records of project data, participant progress, and trainee outcomes (e.g., degree completion, credential / license completion, employment placement).

Collaborate with project faculty, staff, and external partners (e.g., high-need school districts, community mental health agencies, and other sites) to support project implementation and continuous quality improvement.

Assist in the preparation of progress reports and grant submissions to funding agencies.

Supervise and mentor undergraduate or graduate research assistants as needed.


Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

PhD in Developmental Psychology or related field

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

10 years post PhD completion of relevant research/evaluation experience

Preferred qualifications

At least 20 years of relevant research experience in developmental psychology.

Proficiency in research software and statistical analysis tools (e.g., SPSS, R, Qualtrics).

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a research-intensive environment.

Experience with research on youth in community and/or school-based interventions, or interdisciplinary initiatives.

Familiarity with federal grant reporting requirements.

Strong writing skills for scholarly and technical audiences.

Experience working with culturally, linguistically, and racially diverse populations, particularly in school or community-based settings.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with community stakeholders.

Adaptability and initiative in a dynamic, mission-driven research environment.
