THE POSITION

The Lehigh County Maintenance Office of the Department of Transportation is looking for dedicated individuals to fill our Highway Foreman 2 positions. In this role, you will lead a committed highway maintenance team responsible for manual labor and operating heavy machinery to perform routine maintenance and repairs on designated highways. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will oversee various maintenance activities, which include planning for necessary materials, managing traffic control, ensuring equipment availability, and coordinating personnel. You will assess the skill levels of your team members and provide recommendations for training and performance enhancement opportunities. Additionally, you will supervise a highway maintenance crew engaged in manual labor and the operation of heavy machinery to conduct routine maintenance and repair tasks on assigned highways. This position requires year-round planning and the execution of all stages of projects or assignments.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Overtime, shift work and travel may be required for emergencies, training and specialized maintenance operations. Dual shifts required for winter operations.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $53,105 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Highway Foreman 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of experience in the performance of lead work or skilled tradesman duties on a highway maintenance or construction project; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania Driver's License.
Additional Requirements:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
