The Role

Lumen's Enterprise User Experience Design & Research Team is seeking a Senior User Experience Designer with a solid foundation in UX. The Principal User Experience Designer will help create and improve B2B enterprise experiences. The Principal User Experience Designer will help reimagine and reinvent experiences to power the 4IR (Fourth Industrial Revolution) that supports the workflows and needs of our customers across the LBGUPR (learn, buy, get, use, pay, renew) journey. This position will have a tremendous opportunity to directly influence and lead the user experience and strategy for the areas they support.

The ideal candidate will thrive in an environment that requires self-direction, strong problem-solving skills, and innovative thinking paired with effective collaboration and clear communication. This individual is both highly analytical and highly creative with solid presentation skills. This individual can juggle a few projects while delivering high-quality work to the team(s) they support. This individual can justify their design decisions through clearly articulated rationale backed by an understanding of user-centered design techniques and methodologies.

Location

This is a Work From Home position available from any US-based location. US Citizenship or Permanent Residency/Green Card is required for consideration.

The Main Responsibilities
  • Identify new problems, opportunities, and desired outcomes for your team to solve.
  • Push for strategic research that will help share the areas your support.
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to more junior designers.
  • Provide leadership and guidance around project scope to more junior designers.
  • Balance existing UX patterns with platform-specific patterns to ensure a consistent and intuitive experience.
  • Advocate for Lumen's end-users throughout the entire product development lifecycle.
  • Establish, document, and validate design assumptions.
  • Provide strong design direction to other designers on the team and encourage creative use of existing design principles and visual frameworks to product design, and where appropriate, new styles and patterns that are visually cohesive with the rest of Lumen's products.
  • Help guide more junior designers with recommendations related to accessibility and inclusive design.
  • Solve design problems of the highest scope, complexity, and ambiguity.
What We Look For in a Candidate
  • 15+ years of user-centered design techniques and methodologies
  • Bachelor's Degree in User Experience, Interaction Design, Human Factors, Psychology, or a related field
  • A portfolio or case study that can be used to demonstrate your experience
  • Comfortable and familiar with one or more of the following design tools: UXPin, Adobe XD, Balsamiq, MURAL
  • You have an expert-level set of tactical user experience skills, strategic influence, and understanding of visual/UI design.
  • You build consensus amongst peers and stakeholders on product decisions to drive projects forward.
  • You have an expert-level understanding of design principles, including best practices for inclusive design/accessibility, mobile, and responsive web design.
  • You can explain the most complex features/problems simply.
  • You can drive divergence and convergence for strategic work at a more holistic level.
  • You solicit feedback from other designers as a tool for teaching different methods and benefits of good critique.
  • You're comfortable facilitating debate and building consensus between strong points of view from multiple stakeholders.
  • You consistently hold designers accountable for examining their choices through the lens of data.
  • You guide conversations to remove blockers and encourage collaboration across teams.
  • You're familiar and comfortable working within an Agile team using SAFe.
Compensation

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

Location Based Pay Ranges:

$149,084 - $198,779 in these states: AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NM, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, VT, WI, WV, and WY.
$156,539 - $208,718 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NC, NH, NV, OR, and RI.
$163,993 - $218,657 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DC, DE, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.
