Why us, why now?

The Leadership Development Program is responsible for the end-to-end planning, execution, and oversight of AAMC leadership development programs targeted to medical school and teaching hospital faculty, professional staff, and students & residents, and for supporting the strategic operations of the leadership development team.

How you will make an impact? Instructional Design and Development
  • Apply adult andragogy and instructional design principles to create engaging, learner-centered content and experiences, including interactive eLearning modules, videos, and classroom materials.

  • Develop high-quality, engaging content aligned with learning objectives. Step in as a facilitator or content expert as needed.

  • Lead and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders in designing and developing new and existing leadership programs for faculty, staff, and learners in diverse learning environments (virtual, in-person, hybrid). This includes: designing and developing content, working with various stakeholders, engaging and onboarding subject matter experts, working with faculty, and personal development

  • Lead and execute the design and development of instructional design curriculum materials and artifacts (eg, Facilitator guides, digital participant notebooks). Use rapid eLearning development tools, including Articulate, video development tools, Captivate, and Adobe Creative Cloud.

  • Apply instructional theory, multimedia development principles, and instructional design principles or models. Solid knowledge of adult learning theory.

  • Leverage evidence-based education, cognitive learning theory, and instructional design methodologies to enhance learning outcomes.

  • Experience with LMS development and management of programming and materials.

Program Development and Management
  • Oversee the entire program lifecycle from development through evaluation and refinement. Emphasis on continuous improvement and program sustainability.

  • Create, evolve, and deliver a portfolio of leadership programs, in various modalities, tailored for faculty, staff, and learners at the university and executive level.

  • Lead cross-functional teams to plan and execute leadership programs for faculty, staff, students, and residents in diverse learning environments (virtual, in-person, hybrid).

  • Oversee planning, budgeting, problem-solving, and marketing efforts to ensure program success and financial goals are met.

  • Conduct evaluations and SWOT analyses to ensure programs meet standards of excellence, remain relevant, and serve unique market needs.

  • Partner with business development and marketing for audience expansion and competitor analysis.

  • Recruit, train, and manage facilitators; collaborate on RFPs and vendor selection to ensure effective program delivery and alignment with AAMC procedures.

Leadership Development Team Strategy and Operations
  • Identify and implement process improvements for challenges such as faculty succession planning and contribute to the strategic direction of the leadership development portfolio through research on trends impacting academic medicine leaders.

  • Program Evaluation and Knowledge Sharing by developing and maintaining detailed program scorecards, delivering presentations, and actively sharing knowledge on leadership development content and programming across the AAMC.

  • Support the AAMC Learning Development Lifecycle and collaborate with marketing to design and manage a strong web presence for leadership programs.

  • Monitor program performance using established metrics and an innovative mindset to analyze data for continuous improvement.

What you will bring to the role
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Education Technology, Instructional Design, Organizational Development, or related area

  • Master's degree preferred, but extensive experience in leadership development and training may serve as a substitute for this requirement.

  • Baseline proficiency with e-learning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate) required. Intermediate to advanced proficiency preferred.

  • Solid formal instructional design experience using design and development methodologies.

  • 8 - 10 years of related work experience.

  • 1-3 years of experience managing a specialized program.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and work effectively within cross-functional teams, engage diverse stakeholders, and collaborate with senior leadership to align strategies with organizational goals.

  • Proven expertise in managing complex projects, budgets, and multiple priorities, while adapting to change, navigating ambiguity, and delivering high-quality results.

  • Strong communication, project management, negotiation, and presentation skills

  • Knowledge of leadership development field, familiarity with leadership frameworks, assessments, and coaching methodologies.

  • Preferred experience with programming in academic medicine.

This position is eligible for remote work in the contiguous US

Compensation Grade Range

$113,560.00-$133,600.00

Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors may include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, as well as internal equity, market, and business considerations.

If a bachelor's degree is required, related work experience may be substituted in some positions. One year of college course work at an accredited institution is equivalent to one year of related work experience.
