MasTec SkillBridge Program Overview

DoD SkillBridge Internships are an opportunity for transitioning service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through an individual internship during their last 6 months of service, for up to 180 days. The DoD SkillBridge Program is open to all ranks and experience levels. Participants are not eligible for compensation while in the program, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members in a permissive TDY status.

During this program, the service member will gain industry and organizational knowledge through daily business interactions and job assignments. Work is performed under direct supervision. Our DoD SkillBridge Internship is open for all active-duty service members within the last 180 days of their service contract with commanding officer approval. The service member will receive on-the-job training and support a work schedule equivalent to 40 hours per week. This is an unpaid, non-benefit eligible internship position in partnership with the DoD SkillBridge program.

Position Summary

Direct, review and manage daily operations and staff, including all reporting. Monitor processes and budgets to reduce waste and increase efficiency. Develop a workforce plan to align the needs and priorities of projects and to identify and develop key employees.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a culture of quality workmanship and communicate Company quality policies.
  • Develop operational policies for safety, performance, and profitability.
  • Lead problem-solving and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Monitor key metrics and develop strategies for profitability.
  • Collaborate with the Project Management Team on project matrices, budgets, and materials.
  • Set and evaluate field goals and benchmarks.
  • Resolve field office operation issues and manage HR procedures.
  • Streamline operational systems to ensure compliance with laws.
  • Create workforce plans and identify training needs tied to SMART goals.
  • Establish recognition programs for high performers.
  • Monitor field office expenses and ensure timely reporting.
  • Manage equipment accountability and participate in HR procedures and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Provide support for Construction Managers and participate in Phase Gate Meetings and Bench Marking.
  • Promote and comply with all Company safety policies and procedures
  • Take reasonable care of your own and others' health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward the Company's Zero Injury principles
  • Other duties as assigned

TRAINING

  • Participate in complete Performance Evaluations and process all ESRs, Wage Changes and Manpower requests
  • Participate in evaluate, train, mentor and manage all field supervision Supervisory Responsibilities: Complete performance evaluations for direct reports Cross-train staff to be able to move between industrial, civil, power, oil and gas, etc.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES

  • Complete performance evaluations for direct reports

Qualifications

DoD SkillBridge Eligibility

  • Has served at least 180 days on active duty.
  • Is within 12 months of separation or retirement.
  • Will receive an honorable discharge.
  • Has taken any service TAPS/TGPS.
  • Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoD SkillBridge Program prior to start of internship.
  • Meets DoD SkillBridge Qualifications as per DODI 1322.29.

Basic Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor Degree in construction management, business, engineering, or a related field is beneficial but not required.
  • Prior experience or knowledge related to construction, power delivery, or heavy civil is helpful but not required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
  • Gain a deep understanding of construction safety protocols and compliance, with a track record of working safely and applying safety methods.
  • Advanced oral, written, and communication skills and work well with diverse groups of people.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

  • Jobsites work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions
  • This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises
  • Be comfortable with physical work that requires climbing stairs and ladders frequently
