As the Senior Manager, Procurement - Transportation at Smithfield Foods, you will lead strategic sourcing initiatives for transportation services across all modes-road, rail, air, and sea. You'll be responsible for delivering cost-effective, reliable, and high-quality transportation solutions that align with supply chain objectives. This role is critical to optimizing freight spend, building strategic carrier partnerships, ensuring service reliability, and driving compliance with regulatory standards. Your ability to manage supplier performance and identify long-term value opportunities will directly support the success of Smithfield's logistics operations.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Transportation Procurement Strategy: Lead sourcing initiatives, including carrier selection, contract negotiation, and supplier relationship management across all transportation modes.

  • Cost & Network Optimization: Analyze freight spend and market trends to uncover cost-saving opportunities and streamline logistics network efficiency.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with logistics, operations, and finance teams to ensure procurement strategies align with broader business objectives.

  • Performance & Compliance Management: Develop and monitor KPIs for carrier performance, service levels, and regulatory compliance, driving accountability and service excellence.

  • Process Improvement & Risk Mitigation: Lead continuous improvement efforts, enhance procurement systems, and mitigate risk by diversifying the carrier base and building contingency plans.

  • Team Leadership & Development: Manage and mentor a team of procurement professionals, fostering a culture of high performance and growth. Travel up to 25% as needed.

WHAT WE'RE SEEKING:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Education & Experience: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 8+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.

  • Leadership Background: 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership is required.

  • Transportation & Procurement Expertise: Progressive experience in procurement or logistics with a strong focus on transportation strategy and execution.

  • Negotiation & Contract Management: Proven ability to lead complex negotiations and manage contracts with transportation providers.

  • Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of transportation markets, freight terms, and regulatory compliance.

  • Technology & Analytics: Proficiency in procurement tools and analytics platforms (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Tableau).

  • Communication & Collaboration: Strong interpersonal, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills. Thrives in fast-paced, team-oriented environments.
